Re: [PICS]V6 engine air filter + cabin air filter

I had missed this thread when it came out last spring, so I had posted another set of photos about the cabin filter swap. Might also help:

wow. That looks complicated. Why does it seem like the new jeep parts are so tricky & hidden?

Great tip! I had never noticed that till your post - now using it as a shelf just as described.

Actually I was just thinking the opposite, it looked quite easy.

Re: [PICS]V6 engine air filter + cabin air filter

instead of buying the filter from the dealer, look online for a filter with carbon and it will eliminate most odors as well

problem is no one makes one close to this size. i had my guy at Napa look for nearly 30 minutes at size comparisons in all there books and all are off by over 1/2" and when you talk about air Resistance that 1/2" will draw a lot of free air around the filter.

what gets me is the cabin filter was $24 at the dealership but the engine filter was 47 and i can pick up a K & N drop in for 55!.

and oil up your throttle body and only keep rocks from the intake with K&N.

On my WJ had the K&N it gummed up my throttle body and when i did a an oil analysis, it had HIGH silicates which is basically abrasive crap.

switched to a standard paper filter and the silicates disappeared after i changed the oil and had it retested 6 months later

go with a high flow DRY filter like AEM, Volant,Amsoil

Re: [PICS]V6 engine air filter + cabin air filter

or use the k and n filter and use the AEM dry pro filter cleaner on it. solves that prolbem your referring to.
Ive had my K&N on my truck for a year and have no need to clean it yet.

Re: [PICS]V6 engine air filter + cabin air filter

I just purchased an '11 Grand Cherokee and it has just a hint of a "smokers odor" with the A/C on . It doesn't matter if it's on recirculate/defrost, or anything else, but I don't notice the smell at all without the A/C on... Any ideas if a cabin filter will clear this up?

Re: [PICS]V6 engine air filter + cabin air filter

FirstWK: chances are you are due for a new cabin air filter. The standard filter should be changed annually, or it can be a source of odour. That's the first step I would take.

Easy enough to pull out the old filter and see what condition it is in. See posts earlier in this thread.
