Plasti Dip + Polishing

I have some parts on the jeep that are plasti-dipped...grill, rear eye brow, door handles, mirror caps and badging...

I am wondering what will happen if i get the car polished...will the polishing compound react/mess up the matte black plasti dip some how?

Anyone polish their jeep that has plasti-dipped parts?

Re: Plasti Dip + Polishing

They will have to tape all those parts. Who is doing the polishing? I assume you mean by machine?

Re: Plasti Dip + Polishing

As long as they avoid those areas it shouldn't be an issue. However, if those PD'ed parts are getting polished I would bet it comes right off, you're talking heat and friction with polishing, assuming its with a either an orbital or rotary, which will take it right off the surface. Even by hand I would say polishing PD'ed areas will take the coating off.

Re: Plasti Dip + Polishing

I wonder if it will have the same effect if you used the plasti dip glossifier over top the original PD.. perhaps along with making it a smoother and glossier surface, it may also semi-protect coat it?

I put a Low gloss clear coat over the PD then used ICE car wax it looks good. i was looking at the finish of the PD and i like the textured look BUT was not sure how it would be with road salt and getting it clean, thats why i went that route not sure how well yeat because its only been about a week

A branch fell on the hood and I paid the difference from what the insurance co was going to pay and upgraded to the SRT8 Hood. I paid $270 more for it. I would say Anyone living in a hot climate should look into a branch falling on their hood because it Really helps disapate the heat from the engine compartment
