Quadra Drive II

Hello all this is my first post and I'm not sure this is the best place for it, but I'm not sure where else it would fit.

I will be starting to look for a used WK2 in the week or so. (Have to wait till my TDI Discovery sells). So my question is off the window sticker is there any way to quickly tell if the jeep has the Quadra Drive system. while the quadra tec would more than likely be all I need I really want the Quadra Drive.

Thanks

Nate

Re: Quadra Drive II

This is from a 2016 window sticker

Electronic Rear Limited-Slip Differential

Quadra-Drive II® 4WD System

The first line is what actually defines the difference.

Re: Quadra Drive II

I think the OP is asking how to recognize QD-2 (or any other 4x4 system) without the window sticker? When buying a used car, you don't usually get the original window sticker. I am curious about this as well.

You're probably right. I took him at his word "off the window sticker".

Re: Quadra Drive II

Any "Trail Rated" model will have Quadra Drive. It's part of the Off-Road Adventure (ORA) package, which also gives it the Trail Rated badge. So if it has ORA-I, or ORA-II, it will have Quadra Drive. As far as I know the only real difference is that QD has a limited slip differential, and QL does not.

Re: Quadra Drive II

If you are buying used, and don't want to trust that the previous owner didn't add the TR badge, you can test it. Jack the back end up (just enough to get the tires off the ground), put it in neutral and spin the tires (by hand). If the opposite side spins the same direction as the side you just spun, it's got a limited slip and therefor QD system. If the opposite tire spins the opposite direction of the tire you spun, then it's a standard differential, and a QL system.

Or even easier way is, to give it a little gas from a stop and see if both wheels spin, or if you get the one wheel peel. I don't recommend this method though, since it's not exactly a legal method.

Re: Quadra Drive II

One quick way to know right away is that QD is only available on the V8 and diesel. No V6's have it (at least from '14 and later).

I think you are confusing three different systems

Sounds like bringing a jack is the best option.

An easier method such as looking it up by VIN on CarFax? Shocking isn't it ? There was a time when you could put the VIN on the Jeep website and get the build sheet.

How about replacing the VIN in this URL (a random new car) with that of the car in question? I know this worked for almost 1 year after I purchased my car.

Nah, I knew QD is the limited slip differential, but I may just be misinformed on when it was available. Buying used makes things a bit of a mystery (so I understand where the OP is coming from). I'm told my Jeep ('14 Overland V6) has the ORA-II package (it's CPO, so I'm trusting they are correct). When I bought it I looked that package up to see what it actually included. As best I could tell, it was 18" rims (which the previous owner had swapped for 20's, and I have since switched back), skid plates, TR badge, and Quadra-drive system. Is that not correct? It's very possible that I was mistaken, since it's just what I was able to find via internet search. Probably doesn't help that I was looking for details in 2016 so I may only have found the current ORA details. Is a '14 with ORA-II just rims, and skid plates, not the QuadraDrive? Not that I really care if it has QD or not but I don't wont to give bad info, like I apparently recently did.

Also adding to my confusion. The link you posted shows Selec-Terrain as part of the QD package. I've got that too, so is the link just saying Selec-Terrain is standard with the QD package, and I have it as an optional item if QD wasn't available in '14 without V8/diesel?
