Remove Front Passenger Window

I need to remove my front passenger window in order to remove the carrier plate. I have been following the directions on removal from the service manual but have hit a road block.

4. Using the regulator, move the front door glass (1) up or down as required to access the two window regulatorglass release tabs (2) through the access holes in the regulator rails.

5. Using a small round bladed tool (2) or equivalent, release the door glass (1) from the window regulator glass sliders (3).

I can't seem to figure out what is the glass release tabs r

Re: Remove Front Passenger Window

I haven't had to do any window regulator work lately on Wk2's..... is there another hole in the regulator frame a bit higher up? Most windows are serviced around the half way position.

Your second pic looks extremely close, but can't make out wether it's a the release tab or a glob of grease.

Re: Remove Front Passenger Window

I went out and checked and there isn't another access hole in the regulator. It's funny because it does look like a glob of grease.

But yesterday I ended up sticking a screwdriver in and pushing on the grease glob and pushing up on the window and it actually released the window from the regulator. Or at least seemed to.

I'm waiting on my new latch actuator for my front passenger door. When I replace it I'll take more pics and write a lil how to

Figured it out. To remove or release the glass, start with the clip on closest to the door latch. Press firmly on the what appears to be a glob of grease with a small screwdriver or something similar. While pressing lift the glass upward and it should release.

Perform the same procedure on the clip that is located behind the speaker.

I did not actually remove the glass from the door. I had somebody pull up on the glass while I pressed on the clips. Once the glass was free of the regulator, I just taped the glass to the door.

Re: Remove Front Passenger Window

Yikes. Be careful of the tape on the tint. Can use a piece of carboard(folded to fit) to make a wedge between the windor and innermost seal. No mess to clean up afterwards.

Yea, truth b told I wasn't to worried about ruining the tint on my vehicle.

It's 22% which the tint guy swore would match the rears. Well it definitely isn't. So I figured if the tape ruined the tint it would give me the perfect excuse to get my front windows re-tinted 😏

The cardboard trick is a great idea for future work and other forum members.

Thanks

Re: Remove Front Passenger Window

It's much easier if once the door panel is removed to lift up and remove the inner window seal that runs horizontal along the door. You are right by pushing in the greasy tab. It can be done with one person but takes a little patience pushing tab while lifting. If you are careful the window will sit and not clip back in while you tackle the other tab. If you need to take the window out, I ran a piece of tape along the whole outside top of the door to protect the paint and glass. You then rotate the window down and to the front so you basically lift the window up and out from the back of the glass. So LHS window rotate clockwise 90 degrees and RHS rotate anticlockwise 90 degrees to pull out.

I had to do this to change my chrome door handles to colour coded. It gets easy once you have done it once.
