Try white vinegar. Or else a clay bar, yes it can be used on glass. Just make sure its not loaded with dirt.

I clay my windshield every few months. It cleans off all the sap!

I had some very stubborn hard water spots on my Jeep when I bought it and used #0000 super fine steel wool and vinegar and it took care of them with ease. My windows looked brand new when I was done.

Re: removing water spots on windows

Newspaper and Coke (Not diet) Rinse well. It really works. Then use white vinegar/water solution and coffee filters as your wiping device. The filters will have no lent like paper towels.

Meguiars and Mothers both make a window polish also. I apply it with a scotch brite pad. Follow with Rain-X to help keep the spots from coming back.

X2 For the #0000 steel wool. This works wonders on hard water spots, and will not harm the glass.

I have used this and it does work. To try it out I did one side then drove it for a week to see if it was really better and it really was. I don't know about others but I did not use any water.
