Roof rail repair
So I have to do a little minor repair to my driver's side roof rail. I have a 2015 JGC Overland with the full size side rails. It looks like from the factory they installed it incorrectly - for those familiar the front slide-on retention clip isn't attached, so the plastic fairing is loose and lifted up about 1/2". It makes some wind noise too.
I'm trying to see if I can fix it quickly myself vs. a full day trip to the dealer (don't they all take that long?) From what I've read it appears pretty easy - release 3 #30 Torx bolts, slide off, then slide on. My question/concern is the "Rivnuts". Are these used on the 2015 WK2's as well? I took a look and can see the Torx bolt, but am afraid of damaging the rivnut or incorrectly re-torqueing the bolts. Can anyone confirm that once a rivnut is actually installed it basically is just a threaded hole for the bolts to screw in to? The tech guide on WK2Jeeps has a big warning on properly seating them on the first try or they can be damaged.
Or should I just go to the darn dealer...
