RRO Winch Bumper - Brush Bar Combo Kit

Gents,

Just installed the RRO Winch Bumper (sans Winch) with the brush bar combo.

Here are my thoughts:

- The kit comes with what are quite possibly the most vague and unhelpful instructions I've ever witnessed. The instructions refer to pictures that are black and white and of poor quality, however the pictures are crucial in proper assembly.

- The ACC sensor is poorly mounted, and they indicate that you should use a myriad of the washers and spacers supplied to get the sensor mounted in the correct position. This may sound easy, but requires repeatedly taking the bumper on and off to get it aligned properly. Hopefully I won't get any FCW errors due to misalignment.

- The winch plate doesn't come in close approximation with the bumper cover, so again more spacers are provided. However my spacers wouldn't even work with the hardware provided, so I had to rig my own. Then positioning the spacers behind the bumper cover and in front of the winch plate is an extremely difficult task given there is no longer any access. They could have easily welded these spacers onto the winch plate in the first place, rather than making us do it.

- I felt like I was using shims and spacers and different length bolts to make things fit, rather than the design of the kit putting elements into their proper position.

- Overall I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat, and this kit is rather inexpensive so perhaps there's some cost savings with some of the grievances I had with the kit.

Since I knew I was going to be removing everything to install the winch (on order) this was pretty much a "Dry run" but took way way longer than I had expected. If RRO is listening... it's always nice to have a nice set of instructions, you could even post it on the web with colored and expandable images for reference.

Finally, I tried to email and online chat with RRO with no response. Kind of a "meh" experience.

** Update.

ACC sensor is not positioned properly. Ugh. Getting random "BRAKE" message as well as "clean sensor" followed by the "FCW OFF" indicator.

When looking at the sensor placement, it's not directly in the center of the shroud, so I'll try to adjust it next week and see if the warnings go away.

Thanks for the info, I've been considering adding this and it really helps to see detailed feedback from your install.

How long did it take Rocky Road to ship the bumper and brush guard? I've been waiting for over a month for mine.

Looks great, I'm planning to do the same with the brush bars as well.

Re: RRO Winch Bumper - Brush Bar Combo Kit

Fellas I continue to have issues with the ACC sensor and the RRO bumper kit. I've raised it, lowered it, and to no avail I continue to get the Clean Front Sensor warning, then Forward Collision Warning (FCW OFF) and then it indicates Adaptive Cruise Control is unavailable.

I'm assuming that this is all related to the sensor position since this is how it started.

I've attached two photos of how it's aligned currently and am still getting errors.

Any ideas?

I was wondering you there would be issues with the ACC sensor and the lower bars. Have you tried removing the bars to the left and right of the sensor? My best guess that that since it is a wide angle sensor the new objects are somehow interfering with the sensor and making it think it is blocked with dirt and needs to be cleaned.

Re: RRO Winch Bumper - Brush Bar Combo Kit

Good idea, I'll test this out on the weekend. Keep in mind this is the kit RRO has approved for use with the ACC equipped vehicles. I should hope a little R&D went into some of these kits!!

I'll remove the additional bars and see if that's the fix. After that I'll keep messing with washers until the errors reside ( if that is ever going to happen). Keep in mind that RRO has not responded to any of my attempts to get a hold of them!!?

BtW we were at 3 washers and the supplies spacer to get the alignment shown. He "BRAKE" warning has stopped since raising the sensor to its current position.

Can I ask that anyone who has the ACC to show me what their sensor is aligned like at the front? Maybe I'm too low compared to factory?

Cheers

Re: RRO Winch Bumper - Brush Bar Combo Kit

Update:

Removed ALL washers. Now only have the 1.5" spacers that come with the kit. I'll see if that works.

If not, I'll remove the brush bars. If that doesn't work, I'll remove the plastic square shroud around the sensor. If that doesn't work, I'll send a nasty note to RRO and unplug my ACC sensor.

Here's some pics showing how you have to glue/tape/weld a spacer between the bumper cover and winch bumper tray.
