We purchased a 75 amp thumper which lives behind the passenger seat. I use a load strap looped around the front and rear seat mounts to secure it to the floor and it was an easy job to hook it up to the main battery. The thumper has run our 50 litre fridge freezer and led light perfectly all year and when we are not traveling it is a 5 minute job to remove the battery. You also get the option to leave your fridge and battery at your camp site with this setup. The thumper is good for about 20 hours before 50% discharge though this varies with ambient temperatures.
I also have a small inverter for charging cameras etc and have added a engel 90 watt flexible solar panel to keep the power up when not travelling. Thumper was about $750 complete. This setup has worked very well for us over about 40000ks of travel this year.
Thanks. I was looking at the thumper at the Sydney 4WD expo. It looks like the way to go. looks like an easy install to the main battery and it uses AGM so it a safe option isnide the car.
