I think this links you directly to post #30: Place to hide your keys/external lockbox options?
I tested this and it works exactly as decribed. Pretty cool.

Here is that post from Mozzie:

The only way to have it work:

1 - Wrap/hide the FOB inside.

2 - Sit inside (driver's door must be closed) then press the lock doors button on the drivers door.

3 - Open the driver's door using the handle and exit

4 - Closed the driver's door and lock using the valet key
In step 1 I did not wrap the fob in foil. I left the fob in the cup hokder when I used the emergency key that was removed from the fob.

I think the only problem with this method is that the alarm system is not activated. I tried it in my garage and the alarm light in the instrument cluster does not flash.

Re: surfer, question about keys

With the delicate nature of the Jeeps electronics, read crappy sometimes, more so it's software, I'm apprehensive to say the least, even to use a factory command prompt. The keyless entry system as a whole has parts that bug out just being used normally..
I bought a new key off eBay that does not have the proximity sensor, it works perfect and was cut/programmed by my dealer along with my other two. It's secured under my jeep in a case and has never caused a problem, it could just as easily be hidden somewhere inside. Just a thought.

Re: surfer, question about keys

I'm thinking of getting another fob as a backup and keeping it inside the JGC, and then also hiding an emergency key secured to the outside. If needed I get the emergency key and enter. If the alarm goes off I quickly get to the spare fob and kill it.
