Dogface, that is a very professional process and result. I'm also an avid detailer and that's exactly how I would have done it down to the last detail. I am a big fan of the Megs unigrit paper and the Menzerna line of polishes. Great job, I will be doing this to mine when I get it.

Thanks pmnewton. I an still debating going darker but my wife likes them as is.

Menzerna and Wolfgang are made by the same people, great stuff.

Re: Tinted Tails with VHT Nite Shades

hey i did my tail lights last night including clear coat
and they came out rough looking like yours

so should i use a wet sand then a product like scratch X? or can i just do the wet sand then polish?

also u used a glaze before wax? i thought it was supposed to be the other way around? lol

sorry for all the questions, mine are dull and i want them to look all glossy like yours do, but im not super big into detailing...also i dont have a PC polisher or anything

thanks

Re: Tinted Tails with VHT Nite Shades

Random side note: I used the Wolfgang Paint Gloss Sealant 3.0, and it works spectacularly on my Bight Silver Metallic. (This is after mixed results on Toyota Paint -- But that is another story)

I applied it by Hand, and then buffed it off with PC and micro fiber over lambs wool.

Point Being: Wolfgang++

Great, so during the daytime when you hit the brakes and the car behind you cant tell and you get rear ended it was all for nothing... Good luck.

Re: Tinted Tails with VHT Nite Shades

I know this thread is a little older but I must say to the OP, great detailed write up. I know your a little mixed on the results but I give you and A + on your write up of the process.

I've thought many times about doing this to my tails but have been apprehensive about it. I just want the slightest of tint just to get rid of the bright red. I do have a spare set of tails I could test on. May give it a shot after reading this thread.

Sorry for taking a bit to reply. If they are "rough" then you most likely have orange peel going on. Use increasing grit wet sanding to get rid of it. Then use less and less aggressive compounds to remove the sanding marks.
After having these on there for a few months I am more then happy with the results. Parking next to stock the difference is clear and removes the bright red stop sign effect. The light transference is still great and these are highly visible. I have driven behind my vehicle in my wife's car and there is no way you could miss the brakes being activated.
