Re: tips on how to keep a black jeep clean?

In between my weekly carwashes I use: Poorboys Spray & Wipe with microfiber towels (takes care of water spots, bird droppings, etc) and a California Duster (for dust... shake it well between uses).

I also apply a sealant every few months and wash every week or every other week.

^^^Great advice!

I'm pretty anal when it comes to water spots. I like to wipe the car down with microfibers after a wash, then use a small wet/dry vac to suck the water out of the crevasses I can't get to, and finally wipe the car down using Megs QD and a MF towel.

I know, I have a problem...

Does anyone here use a drive-through laser wash? I noticed that with the new Jeep Overland I get a ton of steam from under the hood after going through. Never had this happen with any of my other vehicles. Not a big deal, just curious.

Perhaps the aluminum hood contributes to that?

AAAA, that is hilarious. My first truck was a Black Ranger, oh man it got so dirty that when I got this Jeep, I chose wisely.

But great tips guys, thanks!

I do, often. Do not be concerned; it is just steam off the radiator from the wash spray.

Re: tips on how to keep a black jeep clean?

If you are looking for an easier way to keep it clean then I would do one really good wash/claybar/quick rinse/dry and then apply a product like Collinites No.845 Insulator Wax. This stuff is much more resiliant than your average wax and will give you nice shine/protection and water beading. Once you have this complete you are essentially set for 2-4 months. The next time it's dirty a quick wash will be all you need to get it looking real good again. Also do a google search for "water sheating" as a drying method. This works really well once you get the hang of it and will save you a ton of time and virtually eliminate water spots.

Funny, this is what I do for my black show car! I never drive it if it looks like it might rain or if the roads are wet.

The only way to keep a black daily driver clean is to trade it in to the dealer and get a lighter color.

do a full correction(clay, sealant, polish, wax) 2-3 times a year. Keep a bottle of Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer with a crapload of microfiber towels in trunk.

Re: tips on how to keep a black jeep clean?

Having a black car is like being with a super model... Very high maintenance and they look stunning when clean (and with good makeup).

My Boxster is black and I spend hours trying to keep it clean. I clay/seal/wax twice a year with Griot's garage stuff and yet after 1 light rain, it gets dirty. When I decided to get my new Jeep... black was definitely the color of choice. Love the mineral grey... hides dirt very nicely.

Re: tips on how to keep a black jeep clean?

Take it back and get Stone White...

Kidding, my first real car was a Jet Black BMW 328i. Just a straight dark glossy black. It wasn't easy to keep clean but every 3 months it would be a full clay, polish, sealant. Then every wash I would fully dry it and use some QD to bring the shine and water beading back. I also always had MF towels and QD in the trunk for the bird poop, water spots from water on the road etc...

I'm glad my last two cars have been silver and now Stone White. Both sure are easier to keep clean. But just don't look nearly as amazing after a good was and wax.
