tire chains on my laredo

I'm planing a trip to the mountains and I will need to bring tire chains.

Does anyone have any good advise/tips for me. I stopped by walmart and bought a set of chains that fit the stock 245x70x17 tires. I've read the instructions but i'm curious about first hand experiences using them.

A 4 wheel drive Jeep shouldn't need chains!

Re: tire chains on my laredo

When I purchased my car the dealership made me sign a waiver that said that I could not use chains on 4x2 2011 Laredo. I do not understand why though? I think I need to pick up some chains for the snow.

Re: tire chains on my laredo

Best advice I could give would be to practice fit both sides on a nice dry surface BEFORE you leave or get to need them.
Trying to work out how to fit new chains lying in snow or slush is not a pleasant experience!
Make sure you get them tight , check clearance under the guards, and wire loose ends so they can't flap and damage the vehicle.

Re: tire chains on my laredo

I know that there are places in the Rockies etc. which require AWD or chains at various times. I have never used them, but remember my father using them on our car when I was little. John 47 is right... practice and tight. And remember that driving with chains on is not fun.

Re: tire chains on my laredo

You might try something like Z-Chains which are not really chains at all, but will meet SAE, S(low amount) clearances. Personally I'm not a fan of driving anything with only rear wheel drive in snow or ice unless it's got dual wheels.
