Has anyone done a transfer case fluid change walk through (like the excellent Differential Walk through done by The Evil Twin. I would love to tackle this next, but haven't found much here regarding this procedure.
Just did diff's and tc. 8mm plug for front diff and transfer case...14mm hex rear. For rears I used 14mm hex socket style Allen key. You may have to push exhaust pipe a few inches depending on size of socket. For the tc I used 8mm hex socket style key as well with a 6inch extension. For the front I used 8mm L shaped Allen key due to space. Remove fill plugs first so in event something goes wrong your not left with empty case. All three took about 20 minutes. You will need a oil transfer pump for the front and transfer case to pump fluid in. These available at Walmart home depot or auto parts store. They screw on to the bottle..
I like that this specifies the fluid which is important. I am about to do the differentials and transfer case. ATF+4 from Mopar looks like its what is required. Great thread. Do you really need to put this on a lift to do this. It seems easy enough to just scoot under the WK2 or put it up on a stand? It make take more time, but the dealer wants $300 to do this service.
While I'm at it for non elsd transfer cases depending on the edition of owners manual states 75w140 some say 75w85 which seems to be less common. I used 75w90 as readily available and I'm non LSD. I pumps and pours easier then 75w140 and I noticed approx .75-1mpg increase since. the change and its contents only variable I can say that's changed. Could be I had 75w140 in prior and being thicker caused more drag. Either way I'm happy every fluid has been swapped to synthetic except coolant obviously. piece of mind for me
