Re: Turn Off DRL's on 2012 Overland

As a matter of interest the Australian owners manual shows how to disable the DRL's and our fog lights come on with high beam, dont know how much different the wiring is between yours and export models but we have back and front fog lights as standard across the range so wiring must be a little different.

Re: Turn Off DRL's on 2012 Overland

I took a peak under the hood of my SRT today, I'm Already missing both those relays. Maybe that explains why my Bulb DRLs only come on with the headlights? Wonder where the LED DRLs get the signal from?

DRLS: there is no significant evidence that DRLs on "general public" automobiles offer any reduction in accidents in normal US clear daytime conditions. However, since other vehicles (motorcycles, school busses, fire and emergency vehicles) use daytime lights to GET NOTICED, adding more daytime headlight use to other automobiles would drown out those other vehicles making them blend in and be LESS noticed.

Evidence of this...With the increase is DRLs in the last few years, motorcycles and busses have resorted to constant strobing headlights and auxiliary strobe light to make up the difference. So does that mean we need to "upgrade" all our cars to strobing lights now??

Where do pedestrians fall in this?! Do they need to resort to carrying a flashlight now to be sure they are not hit by cars?

There was a time when State laws actually prohibited vehicles from driving around in daylight with headlights as it was sign of driving agressively (or stupidity).

I did not get the 2012 Overland package for ALL the luxury items, heck-I don't even care for, or use, the automatic headlight-on feature. But the Overland was the easiest and cheapest way to get the air lift suspension (not available on Laredo), towing package, skid plates and tow hooks without placing a factory special order. And with my experience with the past capability in Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler vehicles as late as 2009 models being able to control this via the EVIC settings, I did not realize they would make a change to remove the easy control of this feature from the driver from inside the car with a few button pushes.

So I'm off to the garage to remove some relays...

Re: Turn Off DRL's on 2012 Overland

on my BMW's you can turn it off so easily, sucks that we can't do the same for the JGC except for pulling the fuses.

By the way. Even with GM's initial stupidity of making DRLs standard on all of their models, I've had the misfortune of driving a few Chevy Trailblazers as service rentals where GM had the brains to finally offer a switch on the dash to disable the DRLs. I can't say if this is standard on any other GM models.

Sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread, did anyone ever take a trip to the dealer to confirm if removing the fuses casued any codes? I hate these things!

Thanks for the diagram! I picked up my Deep Cherry Red Overland Hemi a few weeks ago and the DRLs have been bothering me. The dealer said they can't do anything and if relays are pulled, errors with appear. Just drove 50 miles with relays out and no error. Great Forum and great responses. Just ordered my chrome foglight bezels today!

Our WK2's come equipped as standard with lots of stuff including the DRL's.
From the Australian Manual electronic copy p 108 (can be downloaded from the WK2jeeps site)

"Daytime Running Lights —
If Equipped
The Daytime Running Lights (low intensity) come on whenever the engine is running, and the transmission is not in the PARK position. The lights will remain on until the ignition is switched to the OFF or ACC position or the parking brake is engaged. The headlight switch must be used for normal nighttime driving.
Disabling The Daytime Running Lights
To disable the Daytime Running Lights open the hood and locate the Power Distribution Center (PDC), located on the right side of the engine compartment.
PDC Location
Open the PDC by pulling outward on the locking tabs (one on each side) and pulling upward on the cover.
Locking Tab

Remove the left and right Daytime Running Lamp relays and reinstall the PDC cover."

A couple of diagrams are included in the manual but nowhere near as good as the photos posted above.

Simply remove the 2 Omron relays on the right in the photo as previously posted, they are the ones described in our manual.
Doing that doesn't set any codes.
Bog simple - even for us.....
