Using the Key for entry.. Sets off Alarm - Help

Hello - I've had my 2013 JGC for about 3 weeks. I can't seem to figure this out from reading the manual - all thoughts appreciated.

How do I operate the locks using the little key without setting off the alarm?

Currently, when I go surf, I pull the little key out of the housing (the electronic key/remote). If I try to lock the car with the little key, only the drivers door locks, not the rest of the car. If I lock the car with the automatic lock on the drivers side door, the car unlocks itself once I shut the door.

So what I do is I lock the car using the housing/remote while the drivers side door is open and then I place the housing under the drivers seat (must be far enough away from the door, or else the door automatically unlocks when I shut it), and shut the door. The little key comes with me into the water.

My problem is, when I come back from surfing and use the little key to open the door it sets off the alarm until I can scramble for the housing to shut it off. It's a little thing, but really annoying and not nice to people around me enjoying a quiet morning. I'm hoping there is a better way - thoughts?

Thanks

Not really, you're bypassing many of the "features" of the Jeep's proximity key and alarm systems. Only thing you could do is get a really small otter box for your remote/key, or buy one of those combination lock hitch safes. I would not mess with the locking or alarm systems through a lock pick or other reprogramming.

The Hitchsafe would be my choice.

You might have to wrap the key in foil, or remove the battery to prevent the rear hatch proximity sensor and button from working with the key in the "safe".

If you lock the doors three or four times with the fob in the car the doors will stay locked. That's to prevent someone from accidentally locking it inside, but still gives you the option to do so.

You said the key only locks the driver's door. So how about pushing the buttons down on the other three doors and then lock the driver's door with the key?

Re: Using the Key for entry.. Sets off Alarm - Help

This is what I do, I have the evic set to unlock only 1 door, drivers door. I pop the key in my wetsuit, shut the car up, lock it with the fob, then open the drivers side door, press down the cylindrical lock piston, throw the key fob inside the jeep and paddle out. The alarm has yet to go off on me.

Tbh, the first time I used the key and the alarm went off, I was pissed. I thought I had to go through this process all the time while surfing. So needless to say, I was stoked to find this out.

Side note, if you have all your doors unlock, which I did so that I could manually press down all 4 locks individually, the tailgate remains unlocked.
