Weight Distributing Hitch

Hello Everyone

Has anyone ever used a Weight Distributing Hitch (WDH) before? I'm wondering if I'm going to be bottoming out going over railroad tracks or anything similar.

Attached are some pics of the new Anderson WDH install. The red urethane spring is about 6.5" off of the ground.

Tim

Re: Weight Distributing Hitch

This is probably the main drawback of the Anderson WDH... which otherwise has quite a few benefits over competing products. That said, all WDHs eat up clearance in this area.

Cheers,
Steve

I've used WDH's in the past and never had a problem with ground clearance. By virtue of the design it keeps the trailer tong level with the tow vehicle.

It depends on the ground under the car, but it's great you've never got caught up on it.

Re: Weight Distributing Hitch

We have the Anderson WDH on our Overland/Lance 1685 setup. Works great with zero problems and we've been over some bumpy stuff. It really is VERY easy to set up and lightweight plus it only takes a couple of minutes to uncouple and couple. We like it

Re: Weight Distributing Hitch

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Its very helpful. I'm getting a new bracket from Anderson Hitch that will give me more ground clearance. I'll post some pics after the install.

As promised I have the correct brackets from Anderson Hitch. you might have to zoom in but the urethane springs are just slightly below the bottom of the jack (which is fully retracted)

Re: Weight Distributing Hitch

Interesting setup....
Found some reviews on that setup and some people seem to be worried about wear & tear on the trailer ball socket.

FIrst time I've seen anything other than the standard bar system like this:
Trunnion Style Weight Distribution Hitch 600 lb TW [17300] - $260.58 : The Hitch Store, Trailer Hitches Online

Seems a bit more expensive too.

I too have read those reviews that had concerns about wear & tear. But it really depends on what your use model is. This is our backup tow vehicle. I have a 2005 1 ton Ram dually with the mighty Cummins engine. No need for WDH for that rig.

This hitch is easy on and easy off - the wife can attach/de-attach. So to each his own I guess.
