The reason why the HID kits are against the law is because HID lighting requires the headlight to be properly designed to support the light pattern and to self-level to prevent blinding other drivers. Some may contend that halogen projectors can be converted and calibrated properly. However this just isn't so.

What this comes down to is whether or not your state and the police are enforcing this or not. Most aren't today. Mine is, though...

These guys sell complete HID headlight replacements which they claim are DOT approved. However, they don't have one yet for the 2014 Jeeps. My thought is that something like these would be the best way to go for HIDs.

For now, though, I have replaced the OEM headlight bulbs with OSRAM Night Breaker Plus. They throw out a little more whiter light and add some distance. They will work fine for now until I can find a proper HID solution.
The headlights on the 2014 are projectors.

^^This. I'm very against the ricers; etc. who throw blue-tinted HIDs in their misaimed regular headlight assemblies and blind all the oncoming traffic. Aftermarket HIDs work great in the projector assemblies in the '14 Limited, however, with a very defined cutoff that doesn't affect oncoming drivers. As for the legality of them - I live in a state that did away with the annual inspection requirement for vehicles 15 years ago; the cops around here have their pick of cars driving around with one headlight, no taillights, broken windshields, no outside rear view mirrors, and bald tires. (Not to mention the 24% of motorists in this state driving with no insurance or license, or both.) It will be a long time before they start worrying about my properly aimed aftermarket HIDs.

True, but they are Halogen projectors, not HID projectors. There is a difference between the two. While you can get the cutoff close to what a HID would be, you still have enough light spillage to cause problems. Most people don't understand the technology that goes into the design of HID projectors and that they differ from Halogen projectors. You might want to read the article that I linked to in my previous message... (grin)

I got the xenon depot premium HID on mine and love it, I m not upset I cannot use them. And I guess the lux package that is offered has different projectors on them funny thing is my simple mind could not tell the difference just by looking at them at the dealership.

I did read part of the article and it started to Sound like that person there was upset for not being able to use HID, I am waiting to hear on the news that some sort of road accident occurred because one of the parties evolved had HID before I remove mine from my vehicle. I always tell people, if those headlights are to bright... Stop staring at them head on or on your rear view mirror. What is really important to me is I see the road much better now when I drive at night.

Enjoy your vehicles. (grin)

Any pics of these options? I saw the ones from the Xtreme install thread, but would like more. I came from adaptive xenons and really miss them, but had some bad experiences modifying those even slightly so I'm not too keen on anything besides a bulb swap, so pictures of those would be great.

I noticed you changed the bulbs in your stock headlights, can you please advise the type you use and the model number for each bulb. I can't see to find it.

thanks in advance

Couple thoughts.. I got the extreme HID kit from xenon depot this summer. I swear it says on the site that the kits are 50 state legal. Is this one of those things like fireworks, where it's legal to buy them but not use them? Also, I have a 2011 Liberty - so - reflectors, not projectors. I've had the HIDs in since June and literally have not been flashed once. I had my jeep in the shop after an accident at the time so the body shop installed and aimed them for me. A poorly aimed halogen is going to be just as blinding, so I kind of fail to see the difference. Regardless of housing, the HID is going to have a more abrupt cutoff than any halogen.

Also, for the record, HIDs were probably the best mod I've done on any vehicle. I couldnt imagine driving a car without them anymore.

You can say whatever you want to justify it, but there is without a doubt a ridiculous amount of glare coming off your headlights. The only way it may be bearable , is if the lights are aimed down so low, it's pointless and you'll be better with stock halogen bulbs.

I use to have a retrofit setup on my Tacoma with TL projectors. When I got the JGC with halogen, it's like going blind at night now. I caved in and just bought an HID kit. At least they are in projectors. I know the beam pattern will be shit and the cutoff wont be optimal, but it'll be hands down better than reflectors. We'll see for sure when I install them.

PS, this was my Tacoma.
