What do you tow with you GC

I have not towed with our 3.6 GC yet so I don't know what to expect out of the GC. What have you towed with the GC that has the 3.6 engine. And what are your thoughts about towing with this vehicle? We have a 17' aluminum boat with counsel that we will tow (this should be no problem for the GC). We also have a car hauler enclosed trailer 16x8 that we use for our SXS so weight isn't all that much, maybe around 4500# ball park, the height of this trailer is 7' so it is somewhat of a sail. Just looking for thoughts on the GC with the 3.6. Also, what is a good brake controller for the GC. Should note that our GC does have the factory tow package.

Re: What do you tow with you GC

Having towed this 23x7 v-nose trailer back from Michigan to SE PA upon purchase, the GC did very well. Once loaded with 3 snowmobiles and gear, and driving back and forth to VT, the V6, while capable makes me wish I had the 5.7 or diesel. I end up towing in sport mode quite a bit to keep the transmission from up-shifting too soon. Otherwise it handles fine.

Re: What do you tow with you GC

Thanks for the reply ytqm. Your report is exactly what I'm looking for towing wise. Do you use a equalizer hitch on the trailer? Do you get any fishtailing out of the trailer on windy days or when a semi blows by? We probably wouldn't tow the trailer too much with the GC but its nice to know it can handle it. You have towed more weight wise with the 3 snow machines and added size of the trailer than what we will. What are you using for a brake controller?

Re: What do you tow with you GC

Sorry for delay in responding. I do not use an equalilzer hitch. The tongue is too short on this particular model. I picked up in Michigan and drove back to SE PA, traffic wasnt bad, but once I hit PA there were snow squalls and lots of truck traffic. It was a white knuckle trip through the construction zones with 18 wheelers in front, behind, and beside me. Not to mention the salt spray and jersey barriers. I have to say it handled better empty then loaded. Once I loaded it up and drove to Vermont I was getting buffetted by trucks passing or passing them. Looking back I might have not had enough tongue weight as I had my lightest sled in the front of the trailer. The V nose I am sure doesnt help. It was all controllable, just had to be aware of it. Once I bring the sleds back home for summer I will try to remember and update. Also, of note, I did have my snows on which have a taller sidewall and might have contributed as well.

That would be a white knuckle trip trailer or not I'm probably going to be looking for a brake controller, any suggestions?

I bought the
Tekonsha 90195 P3 Electronic Brake Control

through Amazon

Was plug and play. I mounted it to the bottom of the dash just above the accelerator and remove it when not in use. Some here have got creative and mounted it in the dash compartment above where the USB, SD, and 12v outlets are. It worked fine out of the box, however when trailer was loaded I had to make some adjustments.

Re: What do you tow with you GC

I used to tow a jet ski and wouldnt even know it was there. I helped a friend who was in a jam, and we were towing a double axle flat bed landscape trailer, about 15' long, with two john deere zero turn mowers and a bunch of other crap on it. It was heavy, but the GC did well. A little sluggish on accelerating, and I had to add an extra 2-3 seconds for braking as approaching an intersection. The interstate portion of the drive was smooth, no issues with the trailer swaying.

I towed a car on a Uhaul style trailer, where all 4 tires of the car are on the trailer..same as the landscape trailer.

It does a good job, fuel economy is cut by a lot. Normally the trip takes a 1/4 tank, took me just over half a tank. Lots of hills and such. It made me miss my F-250.
