Whats the deal with replacing bulbs for 2014 laredo projector halogen bulbs...

I recently tried to upgrade my highs, lows and fogs. High beams were a piece of cake. I was able to unscrew the caps on the low beams but couldn't get a good angle on the bulb itself. And Just took a quick peek at the fog lights.

Why did Chrysler make it such a pain in the ass to replace the projector bulbs? Any tips?

I am assuming that I simply have to remove the plastic clips on the carpet wheel well to get at the fog lights.

Any tips would be great. Thank you

Are you going in through the removable hole through the fender liner? It has a twist off plastic cap you remove.

Yes, I tried going through the port in the wheel well but there was a metal support piece in the way and my hand was too big to do anything. LOL

I was able to get the cap off the projector bulbs from the engine bay after removing the air box on drivers side and disconnecting the electrical wires on the passenger side. But still no luck with the bulb itself. I could see the back of the bulb but couldn't get good grip on it to twist it.

I am also considering upgrading to LEDs in the future.

How can I tell if my GC is CANBUS?

LED at this point isn't an upgrade, at least for light output. They are all canbus.

There are a lot of people on the forums that would disagree with that statement.....

Including me.

The Xtreme LEDs from Xenon Depot have more light output than any OEM halogen bulb out there.

Granted, some people don't like the 'pure white' light from LEDs as they are much more familiar with the more 'yellow' light from halogens and how the yellow light shows up on the road in front of the vehicle.

My LEDs light up reflective street signs much farther down the road/street than the halogens ever did.

I should have said, in standard 11-14 or non projector housings or fog lights LED bulbs aren't beating other technologies. I haven't seen an LED bulb yet be an upgrade in the regular housings. Very jealous of the newer lamps.

Re: Whats the deal with replacing bulbs for 2014 laredo projector halogen bulbs...

pain in the ass to say the least. just did this last weekend "contorted" is the word of choice to describe removal and install. it took about an hour to do both sides - wth! was able to use thumb and index to twist off and remove the bulb via wheel well port. thought about taking out airbox but said f it and put in the time to get it done without going there. ended up using better halfs skin tight tech gloves to keep from cutting and freezing off fingers. came away with numerous forearm abrasions & scratches

went with the phillips crystal vision and they do seem whiter and brighter than oem. thats as far and as much money im going throw at exterior illumination. oem high beams seem more than enough out in the boonies.

good luck!

I have set of silverstar ultras waiting to get installed. I am going to wait for warmer days at this point and do some research to figure out an easier way. Even thought about paying a shop to do it but don't really want to pay the extra money to do it.

Definitely a pain in the ass and boggles my mind to think of the reason why a manufacturer would make it soo difficult.

Was trying to get a good look at the orientation of the bulbs inside the housing but couldn't get at it either. was trying to find out where the wires go and whether the bulbs twist in or if they have a holder to keep them in.

Ive never had to do so much to change out bulbs in past vehicles. lol

I did this a few weeks ago after having a bulb burn out.

On the driver's side, remove the air box, it'll make your life much easier and only takes about 2 minutes to remove. Then you'll have access through the engine bay to grab that bulb and remove it.

Passenger side, un-clip the ECU harness closest to the bulb to allow your hand to get in there and grab the bulb.

Unless you have hands like a 10 year old, going through the wheel well access hole is next to impossible to work with.

Each bulb will have 3 tabs on it...2 the same size, and 1 that is larger. Just remember the orientation of the bulb when you remove it and the replacement will be easy...should only require roughly 1/4 turn to remove and replace.

IndustrialChaos - I did exactly as you described in the first place and I couldn't orient my hand through the engine bay to get the bulb out. lol Apparently my hands are too big. Going to wait for a little warmer day before I attempt again.

I've got big hands as well, but managed to get them through...you may need to move some wires out of the way, but with the intake removed and ECU harness removed there should be plenty of room.

Wear some rubber gloves too, this will help you get a better grip on things.

I just replaced my fog light bezels to gloss black in lieu of the chrome. I had to pull back the fender liner by cutting 2 of the plastic rivets off and removing the reusable push pins & a couple of bolts. Folding the liner back gave lots of access to the lights with the tire turned in/out. Best to purchase a bag of those plastic rivets and a rivet gun if you don't already have one.
