No. It appears to be sun shading for the driver's eyes in the event that the sun is in front and near the rearview mirror. My E-Z Pass is behind the mirror out of my line of sight as E-Z Pass suggests. It is half on the dots and half off. Works fine according to my E-Z Pass statements!

Re: Where are you installing your Ipass?

You can leave it at home. As long as your plate is registered, they take a picture and check the plate. Then the toll shows up on your account as "VTOLL". I have 3 vehicles registered to 1 IPASS and it works fine for years. This is in Illinois,IDK about anywhere else.

Would it work in the sunglass storage?
Any other ideas or just mount it behind the mirror?
It works fine in the glove compartment, hidden out of sight.

Re: Where are you installing your Ipass?

I've been trying a few different locations to attach the EZ-Pass unit.

This week I had a successful READ with the EZ-Pass unit in the storage compartment in the center stack (not on purpose, but it worked!). But, same day, failed as I held the unit up against driver's side visor, very near the glass (perpendicular to the glass).

I've been reading here that many have had good success in the sunglasses holder. That sounds like a decent unobtrusive location, if reliable. Will try that next.

Also, been reading that many have had good success mounting on the windshield glass in the area with the cosmetic black dots. This will likely be my last resort if not reliable in a concealed location - but it just looks fugly!

Re: Where are you installing your Ipass?

Nice to see it works in the sunglass holder. I couldn't do that unless I Velcroed my sunglasses to the windshield behind the rearview mirror which would not make them easy to use! Mine is stuck to the windshield out of my line of sight behind the mirror, (partially on the black dots) as suggested by E-Z Pass. No problems from the inside. From the outside, it is just one more distration on the windshield which already has state registration sticker, state inspection sticker and town transfer station sticker.

Re: Where are you installing your Ipass?

I have mine on the windshield just behind the rearview mirror on the black dots. Never had a problem, you can't see it from the outside and is just barely seen from the inside.

Re: Where are you installing your Ipass?

Failed to read in the sunglasses holder this week.

So, I simply mounted the unit adjacent/touching the right side of mirror base, at the very top of the windshield, in the area of the black dots. Works perfectly there.

From the diver's seat I can barely see the bottom edge of the unit. A pretty good compromise, I guess.
