Major venting today!

After multiple times to hardwire my Valentine into my new '15 I have now broken the windshield trying to put the mirror back on. ****!!!!

Long story short I have read this thread to hardwire 100 times. After buying 3 hardwire kits that had wires that broke while installing I found a new place to hard wire without taking off the mirror, but in re-installing the mirror on the windshield bolt I applied a little pressure and the spider lined all directions.

This $20 hardwire fix has cost me $100 in wiring kits, 10 hours of off and on and after I had finally figured a new solution and put it back together it will cost me somewhere near$1000 for a new windshield!

Oh and by the way when you hardwire to the mirror now push the hardwire connector into the white plug that comes off the in front of the mirror. You don't even have to take the mirror off.

End rant/vent. Time to get on my bike and go cool off/down.

mpowered, that sucks dude! I installed my Bel detector Blendmount & Invisicord with no issues. What the heck did you do to crack a windshield? The mirror plate is only GLUED onto the glass so I am thinking there was a hairline crack there already. There is no way glass will crack from just fitting a mirror back into place! Take it back to the dealer after you get the mirror in place & show him the crack. :D

I will go back to the dealer and ask about the cracking. I am in AZ and I wonder if the heat had something to do with it.

This will be such an easy DIY once I get a new windshield. I won't have to remove the mirror, simply pull the plastic housing from the mirror, tap into the white plug, boom, done.

Good plan! There is no way heat cracks OEM front windshield glass unless it was faulty (or there is a tiny rock chip). They should be ordering you a new $800 OEM glass as soon as you show it to them! Accept nothing less . . .

Timo13, you got duped!! :slapfight: Read the reviews . . . this tap kit is total junk & now discontinued!

duped? that's a little harsh. I specifically said that one sucked and just posted it as an example. I originally bought it to cut off the ends and splice it with better connectors because it was half the price of the 'good' one. do what you please, I was only pointing out that you don't need to break your windshield to tap into the 12v.

I use the "savvy" unit and run the cord down the pillar. Don't even have to take anything apart took about 10 minutes and it shuts the thing up at low speeds which is nice.

Waz' he sayin'???
