Re: WK2 Front Tow Hook Installation (pic heavy)

I've heard the rivets are causing people a lot of trouble. This is essentially my first do it yourself project (complete novice). Could anyone offer advice on how to approach these during the install?

Done and Done. Ordered the black but painted red. Turned out great. Hopefully I never have to use them...

Complete! Took about 1.5 hours with no hang ups at all. I decided to Rust-Oleum black the bolts and spacers that were not protected. Keeps the rust from creeping on them too early. Also, ran the bolts through their locations to ensure no snags when installing. At time of install they all caught and screwed in with no issues. Here are some pics:

Re: WK2 Front Tow Hook Installation (pic heavy)

Does anyone know where I can purchase the mounting hardware only for front tow hooks? I have a set of chrome tow hooks I want to install on my 2015 GC Limited but I do not have the mounting hardware (brackets, bolts, nuts, etc..). I can't seem to find the hardware only for sale anywhere and my local dealer said they can't order the hardware only, I'd have to buy a set of black tow hooks to aquire the hardware. Really trying to avoid the extra expense ofbuying tow hooks I don't need just to get the hardware. Any suggestions?

Re: WK2 Front Tow Hook Installation (pic heavy)

I don't think you can unfortunately. The only thing you might be able to do is find one in a scrap ward that has the tow hooks installed but most likely if it's in a scrap ward the front end wont be in perfect shape!

If you do ever find separate... let me know!

Re: WK2 Front Tow Hook Installation (pic heavy)

Nice write up. I am preparing to disassemble my front end to see if there is room for a light bar in the lower grill. These pics really helped out.

Nice finished product also.

Re: WK2 Front Tow Hook Installation (pic heavy)

Do I NEED a torque wrench for this? Can I just tighten with a regular socket? Any safety issues? I want to do it myself but never used a torque wrench and don't have one and I see they can be quite pricey.

Re: WK2 Front Tow Hook Installation (pic heavy)

Are you going to use them as tow hooks or just for show?

Depending on how you answer that will give you your answer.

Re: WK2 Front Tow Hook Installation (pic heavy)

Has anyone tried this on a Summit or High Altitude? It seems I need a new lower grill that has cut-outs for the tow hook or do my own cut-out.
