Why did you switch from "the best"? Are you pissed off at your Hemi?

Nothing wrong with doing so if it makes you happy. But don't use it because you misunderstood the owners manual.

I'm guessing (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) they say straight mineral oil because all synthetic sold over the counter is multi-weight.

Incorrect, "straight mineral oil" refers to what some call "dino oil" the hemi was designed to run with a synthetic blend at MINIMUM. So I believe that's what is referring to. You can also get a single weight synthetic for various purposes. It mentions elsewhere only use 5w20 weight which is a completely different reference.

Not trying to ruffle feathers, since I'm new to the forum.

Also a member of "ls1tech".

Look forward to learning more about my WK2 from you guys though!!

You are not ruffling my feathers. I learn something new every day.

My owner's manual does not specify synthetic for the 5.7. What It says is;

" Synthetic Engine Oils

You may use synthetic engine oils provided the recommended oil quality requirements are met, and the recommended maintenance intervals for oil and filter changes are followed"

LOL, nah, it's just that I found a bargain. But yeah, that Royal Purple stuff was good, I thought it was a myth about how good it is... until I tried it.

Most "RP" haters never even tried it

Re: Wk2 hemi oil change

Ive tried many different oils in my time and honestly cant tell any difference in engine performance in them. I use mobil 1 because the oa holds up (in other engines) and its been around for ever.

On a different note i have noticed my hemi uses very very little oil, and its 5w20 at that... Like 1qt/ 10000 miles of hard driving. And almost no metal on my mag drain plug...

As for dino oil for 8k miles... I just wouldnt do it personally. Oil is better these days but also with less additives like phos. And ca and zinc. The makers ive seen recommending long intervals also recommend syn, like bmw and gm.

Re: Wk2 hemi oil change

I agree, I would never run mineral oil to 8000 miles, I think more like max 4500 miles and even at that I would be kinda iffy.....full synthetic, especially RP or Amsoil, Id have no problems doing 5000-8000 miles..

I use Pennzoil Platinum 5W20 in my 2012 JGC with the 5.7 and plan on using it as long as I own it. By using it, I am able to extend the warranty on my engine though Pennzoil. Kind of gives me some piece of mind, so I'll see how it goes.

Re: Wk2 hemi oil change

Anyone have any opinions on when to change the break in oil from the factory? Should I juse use the oil life monitor ?? I was thinking I may do it at 3500 miles regardless so I could throw some RP in it and a RP filter...... Thoughts??

I always do the first at 1000 and then every 6000 (spring and fall for me) with a premium synthetic will probably stick with Pennzoil Ultra as they consider it fine for the SRT and you can pick it up the 5w20 jugs at walmart for $26.

My oil life monitor came on at 3500 miles. I changed the oil at that time and started using Pennzoil Platinum and a Mopar oil filter. I then started changing the oil & filter every 5, 000 miles. I will continue using Pennzoil Platinum and Mopar filters to prevent some high priced Chrysler lawyer from telling me my problem was caused by using filters other than Mopar and now the bill is my responsibility. I invested too much money to take a chance.
