Re: Wk2 hemi oil change

They smoke when they have too much oil in em for sure.

Watched somebody put to much in a Corvette last summer and it looked like it was burning diesel fuel.

Re: Wk2 hemi oil change

I agree 100% that the book says 7 quarts but as someone that has always changed their own oil. 7 quarts brings the dip stick to the add a quart line and 8 quarts brings it to the full line not over the full line but just to the full line on the 5.7. Full isn't over filled it is full. so is the dip stick the wrong length, is the dip stick tube the wrong length, did they not count the filter when they stated 7 quarts ? why the difference? I want to believe what the manual says about using 7 quarts but I am also a little uneasy about leaving it on add a quart after an oil change that am not going to change again for another 6000-7000 miles or 10000 if you go by the book. There have been a few threads on this but i dont think anyone has ever come to a conclusion on what was going on and why. Recently I think someone on here had a dealer verify this and then verify it with jeeps on the lot and found the same situation. So the mystery continues just seems a little strange to leave your dip stick on add a quart after you do an oil change.

I agree it is a weird situation...

I am not quoting the manual though, that was direct online publications from Chrysler.

My guess on this Will is that it is probably supposed to be 7 as all the literature says but there is just something screwy going on with the dipsticks or the dipstick tubes. that is just a guess though who knows, there are other items higher on the fix list so not something I put much thought into lol

I might ask around on this... it is puzzling to say the least.

Resurrecting this thread. Changed my oil today and the oil reaches the bottom of "Add." So, should I run to the store and add another quart? This happened last time and I added another quart without a problem, but if I could save $9 on a quart of Mobil 1 I will.

On another note, I found that I usually lost about a quart of oil by the time I change my oil at 8000 miles. Is this normal?

Re: Wk2 hemi oil change

I think most folks here use 8 quarts or at least have that extra quart available just in case a little more is needed.

What i found is that if i put in the 8th quart to bring it to the full line then the engine will burn off oil until it reaches half way in the hashed area and then uses no more. Half way in the hashed area = 7.5 quarts so thats all i put in when i change now. Works out good if you use 5 quart jugs, 3 jugs = exacty 2 oil changes.
