we already get the X3 in both 2.0L (4 cly) and 3.0 (6 cyl) turbo diesel..... goes to show just how different Euro/Australian markets are to the US market.

Re: 2012 North American Diesel?

I was reading on another Jeep forum that the Wrangler may get a diesel.

Re: 2012 North American Diesel?

I owned a GC WH CRD V6, made 170.000km from 2006 till now.
Changed 3 (three!!!) turbos, the EGR valve, all the diesel candles, the cranking motor + rotor, and please note I always made all the maintenance as prescribed.
The consumption is huge, around 7km/liter.
Modern diesels are just problem generators, not reliable at all.
This why I ordered the new GC 2011 with Hemi engine.

I regularly drive a relative's 1981 Benz (odometer quit years ago) with a turbo inline 6 oil burner, and all it has ever needed is to have the nozzles cleaned once. A robust diesel can go hundreds of thousands of miles trouble-free, whereas a crappy one, like GM made decades back, can act up in under 20k miles.

It all depends.

Re: 2012 North American Diesel?

Jes this wy I talked about "modern Diesels"
A 1981 engine is definitive "Old Design" means absolutely strong even low specific power, also since low pressure Turbo, low torque compared modern diesel.

Not really fair to make that blanket statement when your experience was with one engine, which its already been made clear was a POS.

Everytime they are about to update the Wrangler there are rumors of a US diesel, but I have not heard anything about a US diesel from chrysler aside from the inline six cat in the Ram HD. I am sure the wrangler will get the pentastar and a new tranny next year, and maybe a few aero tweaks but not diesel.

Everything in Europe has a diesel available...they would hardly sell any without it.

The CRD was a 3,000 dollar option over the 5.7 V8 which usually averages in the 12-13 range. With diesel being consistently more expensive than even premium gas here it would take a long time to recoup that investment.

376lb-ft of torque is nice, but the hemi made 375...so not much difference really.

I just don't think 5-6 mpg combined for 3k made it a worthwhile choice.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good diesel, but that Benz unit in the previous gen wasn't a good engine.
I owned a 2008 JGC Limited 3.0L Diesel I got real world gas mileage 22 in the city and 26 on the highway and 23 combined with my foot in it ALL the time (it had about 10K on it before I got the best mileage). The 376lbs of torque feels more like 500lbs of torque because it was like right NOW torque, not high revs...but LOW END, "No SH** by the seat of your pants TORQUE". This was awesome vehicle I wished I still had it (traded it on a Cummins 6.7L). If the Diesel 3.0L engine were available in the WK2 I would be driving it today instead of the hemi. It only made 215 horsepower but it felt like 400 HP.....you couldn't beat it for an all around vehicle (towing, hauling and daily driver) it was an awesome machine! I'm speaking from first hand experience...I had no issues with that vehicle it was a very, very good one. If the option for the 3.0L Diesel was 6K....I would spend it just to have one in my 2011 WK2!
