2014 ecodiesel lemon/buyback - $34,500, 9k mi

Hi guys, I would love to own an ecodiesel but the $40k+ price tags is more than I can personally justify paying for a jeep. However, there are 12 ecodiesels in my area that are factory buyback lemons that are in the same price range as pentastar V6s.

My questions;

Can I find out exactly the problem that deemed it a lemon and what Chrysler did to repair it from the dealer?

Do rebuilt lemons come with a new factory warranty/do lemon laws still cover these buy backs?

I drive my rigs for 5+yrs/150k+ miles so I'm not really concerned in having this lemon/buyback status in the car fax. If the problem was really fixed, this sounds like a screaming deal for minimal risk.

What do you guys think?

Thx,

Jon

It'll have a branded title which will affect your resale status when your done with ownership of the Jeep and want to part ways with it. If however you're planning on driving it into the ground, then this would be but a minor inconvenience.

Re: 2014 ecodiesel lemon/buyback - $34,500, 9k mi

From my past experience with having a 98 go back under the lemon law in WI, it was branded as a manufacturer's buyback (MB). It was simply shipped to another dealer for resale. To the best of my knowledge, the issues I had with the vehicle were never diagnosed or fixed and became the problem for the next owner. I checked CarFax about a year after I parted company with it and indicated it was a MB but none of the problems were reported.

There is a difference between having a title branded as a lemon vs. a MB, and the vast majority that go back under a lemon law are MB's. MB's are less stringent in their requirements as far as what can be done with the vehicle and what needs to be reported as to the problems that made it a MB.

As for CarFax... they are only as good as what info they can dig up on a vehicle. Some states allow CarFax to query their databases for individual vehicle issues, others don't. No state reports anything directly to CarFax on their own. So take what you find in a report with a grain of salt as it's possibly not telling the whole story.

Personally, I'd steer clear of any MB vehicle regardless of brand. You may think that's a good price for a 9K mile Eco Diesel but you can easily familiarize yourself with the problems that have been reported about them in this forum. If you're willing to take that gamble, then fine.
