Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

If you are in Australia why take the gamble with an overseas chip when you just do not know about there fuel, tuning and after sale service.
I will be going local chip, tuning etc

It's got to do with it being $1000 cheaper than any thing you can buy in Aus, yes we may be taking a risk, but Bluespark is a well known company and I know others in my location that have bought Bluespark's for other brands (toyota ) and have had no issues and and have got good performance gains.
I'm all for buying local but when local is 3 times the price!, for the same type of device and performance gains it just becomes to much of a $$ difference, Aus companies need to wise up, if it was only say a $500 difference I would buy the local one but a grand plus is just to much

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I found this article EndTuning - Tech - Tuning Boxes . It clearly describes the distinction between tuning boxes and remaps. Basically both methods produce heaps of additional torque but remapping does it in a more refined way. So it seems remapping is probably worth it if one can afford it.

Setting "F" "1" has been the best combo IMO. Fuel pressures not too high (read through OBD port), temps good, shift good, no faults logged. Better power and much better fuel economy too.

The Australian made tuning chips do have a much higher price($1+) but you get much more than bluesparks fuel rail connection.
I am still waiting for bluespark to answer a couple of questions from my email of 3-4 days ago.
Also what works on a Toyota etc may differ from a Jeep using Aussie fuels, climate etc
I wouldn't take the chance when we have already spent $55-$65 on our Jeeps.

Hope it all works out if you go bluespark.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I find it hard to accept that there can be sooooo much difference in a current Aussie chip and those that appear to be getting a good rap from overseas.
I'm no expert but I can read graphs, research the net, look at countless reviews and for the life of me can't find reason to go an additional $1000 for what could be something that for all intent and purpose yields the same results and can be obtained from overseas. I too share the view that a re-map is by far the best option but looking at the chatter with the roll out US diesel, I think this engine might take a while to catch on therefore the likelyhood of a remap in the near future is unlikely.

I don't understand how my friends who live in the same town as me who drive Toyota's can be using non Aussie fuels and have a different climate etc???????.
Yes some of the Aussie chips plug into other things than the fuel rail, (air flow sender, throttle sender etc), but they basically do the same thing, increase fuel to the motor!, some trick the injectors to have longer pulses, some bump up the fuel rail pressure, some do both!, the fact that you won't find an Aussie chip for under $1000, the Aussie chips basically do the same thing and the fact that if you blow your motor up using an Aussie chip or an import chip your motor won't be covered by warranty, means any one who puts an aftermarket chip in their vehicle is taking a risk.
If I go with the Bluespark (very likely ) my risk is only costing me $500 not $1500-$2000.
I was interested in the Aussie Chip Tuning chip, but when they wanted me to be the guinea pig, and I quote "take some photos of the injector electrical plugs" and we can make one of our chips fit your grand cherokee ", with out even laying hands on the car or putting it on a dyno and plugging in to OBD2 to check vehicle data they wanted to charge me $1300.
I'll run the risk on a company that has at least done some dyno test thanks

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

As I'm learning more about the functioning of tuning boxes, the more I view with suspicion the exorbitant fuel economy claims. Additional power is gained by tricking the ECU into thinking it has added less fuel than it has. This will be reflected in the fuel economy readout. Some manufacturers are claiming 5-15% improvement. I suspect these figures are as per the car's ECU readout and not actual. I read a post on another site where the poster quieried why his readout indicated a 5% improvement but by his measurements he could get to only 2%. So my feeling is that ant economy claims should be dismissed. Remapping is another story and perhaps some economy could be gained by better timing and a better fuel injection profile.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I've got the Bluespark fitted and i'm impressed with the results, there seems alot more power in the mid range, mpg wise its about the same as standard but for the money its really good. I didn't want to spend alot as I plan to get a proper remap done when I get round to it.

I certainly wouldn't pay EUR 1512 for a remap, I can get a map done for 400 that comes with a hand held tuner that can remove the map without a trace so no warranty issues and it reads and can clear any fault codes. The OCT map seems a little pricey for what you get.

I didn't go for the Boost valve thing, you'll have to let me know if it works.
