Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Mudsnow,

Performance Diesel is not new to us Yanks. Our diesels are just American sized. What you call "heavy duty" are classed as "light duty diesel engines" in our "heavy duty" pickup trucks. They range from 5.9 to 7.3 litres. We have been tuning our diesels for about 15 years now. The latest American diesels are very technologically advanced as well. They are heavily de-tuned for towing duty but can be easily tuned to 80hp per later with no modifications.

The diesel pickup market is huge and nearly every petro station has diesel pumps. All light duty pickups and nearly all passenger cars are gas burners. We are very excited to see small powerful Euro diesels for passenger use. It just makes sense.

If Gale Banks is impressed with the VM 3.0, it is surely a well built motor. I eagerly await the time when I will own one!

Thanks,

bd

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I totally agree with you, ExcursionDiesel.
I meant that european diesels have never reached significant sells in passenger car market, and this is really a pity if we consider euro technological advance in small engines. Your ''heavy duty'' pickup trucks aren't simply existent in our countries, so we've never seen installation of huge, yet recent and technological advanced, ''light duty'' diesel plants of 6 litres and more. In the past some specialized Italian car magazines claimed that US diesel fuel quality did not meet euro strict specifications for small, fast-revving euro diesels for passenger cars, and this was probably one of the reasons for which they had not been exported to US.
Other claimed that the average US driver was used to see smoky and slow diesel engines, and that's why they did not want to buy even a smaller diesel sedan, also considering the inadequate diffusion of diesel stations.
I remember one of the 1st test drives of a Mercedes ML with the common rail diesel doing an American endurance run; it was a kind of advertisement for the American drivers... Well, the car needed additional injection of additive, not for meeting emission regulations but due to the poor quality of fuel. But now I realize that time has changed, also for passenger car market!

P.S.: I'm used to drive the MB 3.0 CRD diesel and a ''micro'' 1.2 liter 4 cylinder-in-line gasoline engine made by Fiat and installed on a Lancia. God knows what is my desire to drive a massive gasoline Mustang, a Cobra replica with a V8 or a Vette, or even a Duramax or PowerStroke diesel! Long life to the V8!

Thanks for your contribution I really appreciated

mudsnow

It seems that in the US, GM has given diesels a miss for their pickups and sedans, at least for a while. Chrysler has taken the plunge. Let's see if their gamble pays off. I hope so.

Not totally, The Cruze is Diesel and they are certainly around. There was also talk of putting the same Diesel in the Cadillac ATS.

But I agree, Chyrsler is making the first big steps but only if they build the stupid things!

GM is running Cruze Diesel ads nonstop....and they are available for sale in select markets already. The Mazda 6 is supposed to have a diesel in the US soon as well.

It is beginning....C'mon Jeep, release your US model.

Sorry, my mistake, I meant Ford not GM. I was referring to this article DailyTech - Ford Says It Can React Quickly If There is U.S. Demand for Diesel Cars

Ah I see. I am out of touch with Ford, but they are really missing the boat if they aren't offering diesel soon. If you drive highway a fair bit and especially at higher speeds it puts smaller engines and hybrids to shame. I can speak from experience that they are less expensive to operate in a very short term (a few years)

It will take a while for people to get their heads around it but I drove that Cruze and it puts its gas brothers to shame. Clean quiet and very powerful! The more come here, the more it will change the diesel availability and distribution options (proper auto diesel pumps everywhere).

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Well I've had a word with a few remap people and bad news, the ECU needs to be opened up for it to be done and apart from the fact the dealer will notice if you have a problem the tuner can not guarantee they won't find the map if they check with the diagnostics tools, on some cars they can hide it but not on ours.

So for now its the tuning box so I keep my warranty.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I have the Bluespark fitted at the moment, I had it on setting 9 but on that setting it was hard to keep it at the speed limit as any slight movement of the throttle and she'd be off, setting 8 gives you a lot more throttle to play with.

I'm happy with the chip but do think there's more to come from the engine.

Off.... as in TAKE OFF.... correct?

I wonder since the NA vehicle will have a slightly different injection system if there will be another revision of BlueSpark for it.

Can you post pictures of where it sits??

Thanks!

Oh, I like hearing that...

Did you get the pro+boost control, pro, ... ?

Installation as easy as they depict?

Any other general impressions so I can live vicariously through you until I can actually order my diesel and then still have to wait to get the tuning box shipped from overseas?
