Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Hi,

We need persons in Victoria to come forward for a tune. (Visiting CRISPMODS)

We do not work with ECUWEST anymore so any develpment work he may have been doing for us has come to a halt and he is now on his own.

We also work with others with this bosch ecu including Agri Tune and vtech.se - VTECH motoroptimering, chiptrim, trimchip, sea doo, vattenskoter V-tech so we have a fair bit of backing already from overseas vehicles.

I am interested but not ready just yet to take a bite of the diesel tune apple.

I have been reading your Amarok forum so have a few questions

1) Do we know if the tune file will get wiped after a service on a Jeep ??
2) After you load the tune how do you know if what you have put in as doing as it should without either logging data or dyno.
3) I have seen plenty of gas tunes where their was a diffference in before and after, with the after not in the best interests of the car owner without a dyno or logging how do you quantify what you have just done.
4) Is the Jeep tuned via OBD or remove ECU.

Cheers

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

1. You will know straight away if it gets wiped. We re-instate for free.

2. Of course we log and I always dyno all vehicles that we haven't done locally. But in saying that we road log all vehicles we do full stop. You have to understand the majority of my tuning is done "on site" in rural vic, nsw, qld etc. where there is no dyno available.
I have a portable wideband kit always with me and full obd logging.

That being said, the way the 3.0 VM is setup, each one should react exactly the same as others. Thats what bosch engine management is good for. Denso on the other hand is an absolute pain for tuners to work with.

3. Dyno results only show "before and after" wide open throttle. If you spend all your time tuning WOT, how does the other 999 pedal positions/torque requests feel?
Dynos are only good for marketing and being in a safe environment for diag.

4. It is absolutely ecu out.
Unless you have the 1024 kb encryption coding for the checksum (Which I would happily pay around $12,000 for!) then it is absolutely ecu out (With possibility of patch for obd tuning after first outing. This is what we do with the VM Ranger and Amarok)

And also, we have had contact from a nearby vic resident for tuning.

Cheers

Thanks Chris.

The dilema is at least for me is that I live out near Berwick, so when the car gets serviced every 6 months it is highly probable I would lose my tune and that means ecu out possibly every 6 months. Only time will tell if this is the case.

With all my other cars I was able to log my data while towing and any fine tuning then made and I would then re flash my ecu.

Will it be possible for something similar if your obd patch works and the ecu doesnt get wiped at service.

Cheers

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

facepalm...

Unless there is ENGINE MANAGEMENT UPDATES for that specific engine, there is no overwriting of mapping.

Engine management updates only really happen in 1st year of new engine out from factory.

After that, pretty much doesn't happen.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

For a manufacturer to go back to bosch and ask for revised mapping for a specific vehicle it needs to precede with a reason for the change and then the bosch revisions take approx 3-6 months of testing (unless safety related) before the update package is given to the car manufacturer.

It doesn't happen often, especially if the manufacturer has chosen to use higher quality sensors and management like with the 3.0 VM.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

News:

WK2 tuned locally with clone ecu.

Tune protection is active on local ecus, tune protection can be disabled.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

It means that a locally tuned 3.0 crd VM was done with the co-operation of a dealer who was happy to marry up an ecu to a vehicle, for an ecu that was brought in from overseas.

We estimate maybe 1-2 months for the tune protection definitions to be added to the local market, then its a free-for-all and whoever will have the best bosch definitions will make the best tunes.

Cheers
