Hi everyone,

I spoke to Diesel Unlimited this morning for an hour his name is Brendan and from what I can tell is the real deal.

He has informed me that he is just got back from Europe where he has done training with Celtic and as such now has the rights to Celtic tunes in Oz. He has a website etc coming but has been caught off guard with the response.

I will be emailing him tonight with a list of futher questions that he needs to follow up on before I take the next step.

Having said that if there is anyone in Vic that is interested in the Celtic tune if the above pans out I am going to try and organise Brendan to come down here to Vic do ecu flashs.

I will keep you updated.

Did you happen to ask if the tune is robust enough to withstand software upgrades by dealers?

Looking at Celtics site the WK2 remap is advertised as (470 lb/ft) which is 637nm.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

The Bluespark Pro+Boost advertises 721nm (525 ft-lb) at 317bhp. I have no way of confirming this other than a best 0-60mph of 6.7 sec.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I got of my arse and googled it.
The Max torque the ZF 8HP70 is rated to 700 N-m. That is what the "70" part of the code means.

845RE / 8R70: ZF 8-Speed Automatic Transmission for Chrysler cars

TorqueFlite 8 Transmission Specs & Ratios

ZF 8HP transmission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As such, I wouldn't want to be going anything past that. The Celtics figure of 637 N-m is good.

The Bluespark is adjustable. The figures quoted are maximums. There are 5 power curves and 10 fueling increments per curve.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

So as not to unduly worry those with Bluesparks and W5A580 tranies, think of the 580Nm rating as the trany's red line. It will work happily up that limit all day and occasionally red-lining it won't hurt either. After some teething troubles in the early days were sorted out, the W5A580 is now regarded as a very robust transmission.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Most tranny torque ratings aren't like a "fuse" where they blow when they are exceeded. The tranny is rated to work at that limit without failure. The #1 killer of transmissions is heat which is produced from continuous hard work like towing and the max torque is set based on this. There is no published rating for short duration, high torque use. The aftermarket determines this over time. The jury is out on the 8 speed but the SRT guys aren't toasting them from instantaneous high torques so, for a quick blip on the throttle, I'm not too worried. I do think elevating the internal pressures would help as mentioned previously. I suspect the TCM manages this, not the ECU, so I am curious if this can be tuned.

Hi BobT and other esteemed forum members,

Brendan from Diesel Power Unlimited got back to me today as he is still awaiting a response from Celtic with my big list. I will post all questions and answers in one hit when I have them, to save multiple posts.

Cheers

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Here is the reply from Brendan.

Celtic have already given Stang78 a response to the fans so have not provided that to Brendan, I will chase up with Stang.

Any hows see below, any more questions give Brendan a call direct or send him a email.

I wont be doing anything until I get my exhaust and cold air, exhaust is supposed to be ready next week and Banks CAI is another couple of weeks away, so all going well should have a tune in about 6 weeks, just the waiting is killing me.

1) Will I lose my tune if I take my car in for service and they do updates to the ECU ?? Yes, but a re-install is free of charge

2) Jeep have the 8 speed transmission in the diesel rated to 700nm after the tune the torque will be very close to this or above, what if I damage my transmission ?
There are different stages of tuning you can go for but we would never tune beyond the safe limits of the drive train.

3) If after the tune something breaks on my motor and Jeep wont fix it because I have a altered the ECU, what do I do ??? If your vehicle is in the new car warranty period and it can be proven the remap has caused the fault we will cover you under our 12 month Mechanical Breakdown warranty.

4) Do you have access to the Thermo Fan Maps/PIDS how do they work and can they be adjusted ?? Not sure on this sorry, hoping Celtic have answered.

5) If this is a Custom Tune and I have a Performance Exhaust and/or Cold Air Induction how is this tune optimized for my car if it is not tuned in real time on the dyno, all exhaust's are not created equal, etc ??? Celtic have the latest in AWD and 2wd dynos and these tunes are 100% developed on the dyno, we are the only ones achieving the gains we are without limp mode issues which others are getting.

6) What is the expected power and torque increase ??? Varies on stage of tune opted for.

7) The engine is making more power, will it run hotter and if so is question 4) possible. The engine will not run hotter no, we are not achieving our results by adding big heaps of fuel and putting egt temps through the roof which would be required to raise the temps as mentioned. Excessive fuel in a diesel is what raises egt temps.

8) I am in Victoria how do I get my car tuned if you are in Mackay ?? We are mobile and happy to travel to Victoria should you have a few to do, if not the ecu can be sent to Mackay and turned around same day in a registered padded express bag.

9) I have never heard of Diesel Power Unlimited what exactly do you do ?? We specialise in field service Diesel repairs and diagnostics throughout Australia and until recently PNG. We only utilise O.E.M trained and qualified Diesel Technicians and are regarded very highly around the Bowen Basin by many companies.

10) How many of these have you done and what if my ECU is bricked when flashing ?? I have not had an ecu bricked as you mention but should the worst case scenario arise our tooling has a recovery process to always go back to your standard software. Our 150 large dealer network have done many of these vehicles, exact numbers I would have to look into. I myself only starting the Australian dealership in May have done 1 of the WK series 2 Jeeps with some very impressive results as can be seen on our facebook page ( Diesel Power Unlimited ) until our website is up and running.

Thanks Brendan.
