I emailed RaceChip asking if outside of Europe was exempt from VAT. They emailed back and said that if the order came via email they could, via the online checkout it was not possible to remove the VAT.

Got to get to the bottom of this. Did your Mate say "there was a noticable improvement on performance" or "Jeez, HUGE improvement, super quick off the line, MASSIVE difference".
Sorry for harping on, mines got a great leap of power after a split second of turbo lag that I would like to refine further. Is the chip managing fuel delivery only or do you feel it's also woken up the auto gearbox, turbo boost etc?

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

My MATE says the performance difference is certainly noticable in a positive way. Would he use the word "Massive" NO!
Since the chip intercepts at the fuel rail, he thinks it is not effecting the transmission changes.
my MATE would compare the change to a normal aspirated Ford Territory to a Turbo Ford Territory.

The Race Chip, if you open it up, has settings which you can change yourself. It is described in the installation guide. By doing that, you may get even greater benefits.

I actually emailed them yesterday and asked them nicely to refund the VAT as I reside outside the EU. Got a pretty quick response agreeing to refund the VAT to my bank account. No quibbles although they wanted IBAN and BIC codes which are not used in Australia so I had to do a bit of googling to find out my bank's SWIFT BIC code which allows them to do a bank transfer

The racechip arrived today. Instructions seem pretty straight forward. Will post my thoughts once installed.

They seem to have exceptionally fast shipping. I ordered mine late Friday night and according to the tracking number it is in Sydney being passed on to the courier for delivery today (Wednesday)! Looks like I will have it for the weekend. I'll post my findings too, just hope I haven't built up my expectations too much!!

Update: Racechip delivered at 11am this morning, 4 days transit from Germany to Australia!

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Best thing about having a CRD is our can be tuned, the Hemi still has not been cracked.
That alone should make the Yanks want the Diesel, as a tuned CRD will hose a Hemi.

I installed mine with the assistance of Allypally tonight. The plug was positioned slightly differently in my JGC and was tricky to get to. The install would have been a 2min job if the plug was easier to get to. In the end it took us about 30 min.

Unlike Allypally, once installed it ran smooth straight away. - I didn't experience the initial rough idle Allypally described.

First impressions are based on a 10km drive back to my place and the chip set on the factory settings.

Noticeably more grunt if you tramp it - acceleration is more responsive and the Jeep feels quicker off the mark. The car also feels smoother - like it was out of tune before installing the chip.

I haven't driven long enough since installing the chip to make a proper assessment, but my initial thoughts are that it was money well spent.

I'll update after I rack up a few kilometres and get a proper feel for it.

Does it reduce or eliminate the lag on take off?

Identical story here Selous. Couldn't wait for the weekend. Plug was in a b**ch of a spot, rear left of the engine block - different to Allypally's on the right, with the clip on the underside where I couldn't see or get at it. (Would warn others not to get mixed up with the yellow plug to the right like I did initially ). About 30 min and a bit of lost skin later started up with no problems, no rough idle.

Definitely more responsive and absolutely scary if you tramp your foot down from a stopped start and hold it flat! Front of the car lurches upward and throws you back in your seat and growwwls!. It hasn't completely eliminated that jerky gear change between 1st & 2nd in normal driving but has improved it. Can even notice a difference reversing out of my driveway with no hesitation like previously.

I did two 0-100 runs before and after installing the chip. Before I clocked 8.4 & 8.5 sec, after I clocked an 8.2 & 8.3 sec. Such a small difference could be put down to my response time tho but initially appears it maybe marginally quicker. Pick up is definitely quicker from around the 60-80kmh mark.

I have just refuelled this morning and reset the fuel economy reading. Might be a while before I can make any definite statement on fuel economy, I never really pay too much attention to it and hadn't reset it since new (2900km). Will probably know more after checking how many k's I get from the current tank of fuel.

As Selous said I think it was probably money well spent. I may even have a play with the different settings on the chip when I get some spare time to see if I can tailor it be even more responsive lower in the revs. Two thumbs up to Racechip .

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Just be carefull, this chip just pumps more fuel into the engine, to properly performance tune an engine it has to be dynotuned , where everthing is monitored and boost, timing, fuel delivery is altered in real time, and every variable is checked, that is why the cost is a lot more but engine longivity and reliability will not be affected, do it this way and you can drive with peace of mind, saying that i am still keeping my car standard because i absolutely love it's performance the way it is.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

So people are seeing a bit more responsiveness, perhaps a bit more torque and horsepower.

But what is the effect on fuel economy? Is the chip providing the best of both worlds or is it sacrificing the mileage in the name of mildly improved performance?
