Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I suspected as much, they don't have the install instructions online for the GC.

Whether you made the right choice, I wouldn't know but choosing it because of a slightly higher figures is problematical. They can pretty well show you any curve they want, within reason. It won't be till we see some user figures that we will have a better idea. However, as you know, two cars off the same production line will perform differently, every dyno has it's own variation and every tuner does things a bit differently. So I expect actual user results to be all over the shop. Anyway, my point is one shouldn't stress over a few % difference in figures.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Good discussion. So interesting all the tuning options becoming available. Tough to choose.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

The Lineartorq items look to be rebadged Bluesparks, or do many use the same hardware and then customise what’s going on?
They post the same figures as Bluespark, much of the language is word for word copied from Bluespark’s site too.
Lineartorq cost approx. double Bluespark. I could understand that if they were a local workshop setup, with an actual premises you could go to, so higher overheads… but they seem to just be some local guys with a website. Happy to be very wrong about that, as I always prefer to support local business’s, but this one’s a bit hard.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Thanks for the heads up, Snuke! Sounds like a bit of badge engineering.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I am torn about this. Part of me wants to get one, the other part says don’t mess with it, the last thing I need is a possible problem that then involves Jeep Aus and the wonderland of no spares.
Not to mention the ear nagging if there was a problem, oh jeezuz, that would be fun. Her daily driver, my desire for oomph causing problems. The end of the world is coming.
Think I just talked myself out of it.

Easy to remove, under 5mins, which I do before servicing.

What's your trick to getting the fuel rail plug off? It's such a tight fit and with the plug being upside down I always struggle getting it off.

I've had transmission problems with mine on the higher settings but even on the default setting the blue spark makes a noticeable difference in power and reduced turbo lag. It's worth it but I'd go with a retune over a chip if you have the choice.

Yes I agree. It can be all over the place. I once owned a 2005 Subaru STI with a quoted factory output of 206KW, however when I dyno'ed it prior to remapping the ECU we discovered its output was 210KW!! The ECU re map plus an exhaust only brought it up to 235KW. Eventually added a larger turbo and re mapped it again. This was a real game changer. That was a fun car.

I also recently brought a second tuning box from Lineartorq and put it in an old MK5 Golf I have. It has nearly 300,000km on the clock. The difference with this engine has been awesome. Much more torque and the power delivery feels kind of effortless from low revs up to the top end of each gear with a significant reduction in turbo lag. It may be an expensive test if the engine fails but I really want to see how it performs over the next 12 months seeing as the engine has such high kms on it.

Yes Wade my fuel rail plug is a bit tricky but I guess I am lucky my plug is at "3:00" so I can use a screwdriver to help. I wonder if we can loosen the retaining nut and turn the plug?

This was normal for the STI and EVOs and even going back to the Skyline R33 & R34. Japan's car manufacturers had this odd gentlemen's agreement to not exceed 206KW. I think it was based on the R32s actual official numbers and a power/spending war that was going on with engines. Similar to what happen with the Phase IV saga we had here with the Falcon GTHO.
It didn't take long for the 206KW "limit" to be exceeded, but the officially published numbers always remained at 206KW. They finally gave up on with the plans of the R35 and LFA.
