Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

It's hardly an issue, I've had to do that twice in the last year, and we might tune 3 or 4 diesels a week. FYI, they were both BT50's.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I was up at the Victorian 4X4 show on the weekend and came across these guys.
They gave me a little spiel on their device (pretty much the same as all the others) but one thing he kept mentioning is that they guarantee no increase in EGT's using their box.
They also claim the most HP and torque, 236kw and 721nm.
Great numbers, but I'm a little dubious.

Hi mate,
Bummer, was going to go myself, but didn't get there.

As you mentioned, they are huge figures. I would be extremely surprised if the EGT's didn't go through the roof when towing.

Cheers, Craig

This is why I made the comments about Peters site, which I trust simply because he is a JG member, but still has some points to update on his site.

But owning a website domain, and then having the email address as anything but @ your actual website domain, is embarrassing. It is very simple to set up and forward to wherever you need it. Hotmail is one of the worst to see because of the old days when it was responsable for so many hacks and spam.

Now that my car has had the DPF issue all on its own, I may look into to these again.

OMG, after years of procrastinating I've just pulled the trigger on a Bluespark. It's wending its way to me right now.

I was there and should have said yes when the young kid asked me if I was interested in a diesel chip... anywho... Its a Bluespark box with a sticker on it.

Those figures are unobtainable plain and simple. Additionally, if the engine makes more power the exhaust gas temps will rise, you can offset some of the increase in temp by adding boost but a diesel needs more fuel to make more power and as I said, more power equals more heat... in actual fact its more heat equals more power.

So the claimed figures are bullshit and the EGT statement is a lie.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Is an increase in EGT bad? Can't this actually help in clearing the DPF?

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

As said if you want more power on a diesel you will get higher EGT's, this is not a problem, As long as the EGT is kept within safe limits, otherwise you start to damage engine and exhaust components.
The question is wether you trust a tuning box from a company that lies to your face?.
I would not

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

With the DPF question, when you over fuel a diesel you increase EGT, over fuel = more exhaust particulates (more black smoke), means more problems with the DPF clogging

As Yoda said the higher EGT is not an issue until it goes too high...

The factory ECU cleans the DPF by increasing the EGT by means of extra fuel, so yeah... its fair to say the DPF in my car is pretty clean...

Tuning boxes can be fine, but to blindly fit one and adjust it without testing is, in my mind at least, Russian Roulette.
