Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

It is hard to tell, as the fuel guage in a CRD barely moves at the best of times.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Here appears to be another option, though still only appears to be tapping into the fuel flow and nothing else:

Hard to tell. It would take a few tanks and then calculate the average to get any meaningful metrics, but having done around 400km since installing it, my gut feeling is that it is either the same or slightly (0.1 - 0.2lt/100km) increased. However, over 8000km I have found my average fuel consumption varies by up to 1lt/100km from tank to tank, so it is impossible to tell over such a short distance.

Having said that, I haven't touched the factory setting on the chip. There are two dials which can be adjusted to tweak economy and performance, so another setting may give more of an improvement in fuel economy.

That chip quotes up to 30% extra power and torque similar in power to the racechip pro but a lot cheaper.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I installed the RaceChip Ultimate a thousand kilometres ago and after driving on the Factory Recommended Level 2 settings (instead of B1 i set the rotary switches to E2) for a week I started tweaking the power switch. I noticed huge improvements in available torque by adjusting the left rotary switch up to number 3. I tried it as high as number six but was not able to use this setting without the malfunction light coming on. In the end I have been running switches at 3 and 2 for the last two weeks with no malfunctions, bags of torque(the back steps out if you use too much throttle in the corners) and fuel consumption is about the same(would probably be better but it's more fun to drive now ).

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I hope you guys realise that the RaceChip is claimed to produce up to 616Nm torque but the W5A580 gearbox in the 3L CRD WK2s is rated to only 580Nm.

"Claimed" figures quoted by Racechip are for the maximum setting only. The default setting that the chip is shipped with is in the lower range of added power and torque. As Webby mentioned adjusting the settings can unleash a lot more than the default but the MALFUNCTION light came on presumably from the computer acting to safeguard the vehicle from acting outside its safe operating parameters. Thanks anyway, but I think we will be ok .

Just filled up after installing the racechip 800km ago. Fuel consumption in city driving was 11.04lt/100km which was less than the last couple of tanks before installation (11.89 and 11.21 lt/100km respectively). This is with the racechip on the factory setting. I will leave it until after the 10000km service in a couple of weeks until I tweak it.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Slight off subject, but couldn't help noticing how this engine really gets a second wind at 140km/h. Reckon it could really power up to over 160 very quickly, but not tried it yet...and thats unchipped.

Can get to 180 with no problem, (not that I would have done that as our speed limit is 130) ;-)

The gearbox is supposed to be rated to 580Nm, but the same 5 speed box is in the SRT which has 624Nm. So not really certain what it's really capable of.
