Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?
That's pretty cool. However, remember that all the figures in the world mean zip unless you get that push in the back when you touch the throttle but I'm sure you are getting that.
As I understand it, torque figures quoted by manufacturers are "flywheel" torques measured by attaching a dynamometer to the engine on a test bench. The Jeep does not come with some mini dyno attached to the engine. So how do they get a torque readout on the dash? My guess is that it is a calculated figure based on a function of revs and the fuel injection rate from the CPU all calibrated back to the known test bench figure. Given how clumsy dashboard fuel consumption figures are, I would take the considerably more complex torque readouts with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, as means of comparing one run to another, they should be good. Were you to put your car up on a wheel dynamometer the figures will be entirely different and not comparable to you dash readout. Here the figures would be influenced by the overall gearing, transmission, diff ratio, wheel diameter less overall transmission losses.
Regarding the EGT's, are they true EGT's or something else. The reason I ask is that my scan tool would not give me EGT's. Why, I don't know. The scanner did however give me cat temperatures which is weird because the CRD doesn't have cats, it has DPF's which do have temperature sensors so I'm assuming what it called cat temperatures were actually DPF temperatures.
Ha! Just checked under the bonnet of my 3L CRD for the Vehicle Emission Control Information. I can confirm that it is indeed certified for OBD-II but it is also nominated as a 3.6L engine certified for fuel: gasoline/ethanol
I've been using the wrong fuel for the past 4 years
