I would love to say NO lag but there is still a minor lack of "instant takeoff" from a standing start until it starts building revs. There is a big improvement though. Rolling starts at intersections/roundabouts are good as the revs are already high enough for the extra power to kick in as you accelerate.

I also think a big part of what we see as lag is the gearing and the way the box changes at certain rev limits though. Changing in to a higher gear too soon rather than building revs comes across as a lack of oomph. Something Jeep needs to address but I presume won't because it would affect fuel consumption figures.

I will pay more attention to the revs etc next time I go for a spin and give you a more detailed report. I will also consider the youtube suggestion if I work out a viable way of doing it, although I don't see it as something that can be shown in a video clip - it's more the feel of the vehicle which is hard to show.

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

Gale Banks Engineering are expecting big things. See Inside The Banks VM Motori 3.0L 630T V6 Diesel Engine - Diesel Power Magazine . The power increase they are expecting is only modest 177kW to 179kW but the torque they expect to increase from 550Nm to 678Nm. Hopefully the spin-off will be tuning tips and hot-up goodies. It seems we "export" CRD owners are the guinea pigs for the States. Not complaining... I love it!

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

I rang Diesel CARE Aust and was told they will have a Power Module available for the WK2 diesel at the end of Nov. They are expecting up to 20% increase in power and torque with this fitted. It is not a chip which increases rail pressure and puts big stresses on your motor. The power module increases power and torque by extending the time that the injector is open and runs downstream and independently of the computer. Has anyone had any experiences with these on other vechicles? I am keen to get one.

That sounds exactly what the German Power Chip does

Re: Anyone tuned a CRD yet?

No they are very different. The rail pressure is not changed with the Steinbauer module as the Race chip is. The module achieves extra performance by changing injector duration, the same way the engine was designed for. this allows precise fuel control throughout the entire range of the engine as the module is individually mapped to the specific engine.

The Steinbauer modules sound great but are terribly expensive. They would never pay for themselves, if that were an issue which I suspect it's not for most bloggers here. Being of Austrian descent, I had to laugh at this statement, "Steinbauer modules are manufactured in Austria with the quality and attention to detail that you would expect from German engineering." I don't think Germans would be too impressed either.

Do you actually have an independent opinion? Your post is just a cut and paste from the Steinbauer website:

"by changing the injection duration, the same way the system was originally designed to operate. This also allows precise fuel control throughout the full rpm range of the engine. "
http://www.steinbauer.cc/au/products...60kw__4mg/a24/

While the racechip does increase pressure by a max of 0.2 bar, it also adjusts various injector parameters, not just boost rail pressure:

How does the RaceChip work?
The RaceChip is connected between the engine control unit and the injection unit. The engine control unit normally sends the data directly to the injection unit. Now, the RaceChip receives the data first and optimizes it tailored to the driving situation.

Furthermore, the RaceChip is only active, when you need the performance. Thus your driving is engine-protective. We modify the injection values of the vehicle with the RaceChip, i.e. the injection quantity, injection duration and the injection time are optimized. Additionally, the charging pressure is increased by max. 0.2 bars.

This optimization results in a power improvement respectively leads to a fuel saving.

I don't know whether the Steinbauer is better than the racechip or not. I do know that I wouldn't be coughing up a few grand to find out. I'm pretty happy with the racechip's performance and price point.

Did about 1,000 klms on the weekend, and averaged 8.4 l/100 highway cruising.

I did a run up the highway to Iluka last weekend and by the time I got back had averaged 8.0l/100 with cruise on 110 most of the way. That was averaged with a week of town driving the week before, average briefly dipped to 7.9 but was on 8.0 when I got home.
