Australian maps?

It seems there are new maps for NA.
Chrysler Group | Jeep | Grand Cherokee | 2014 | CHRYSLER GROUP- 2015 NORTH AMERICAN MAP FOR UCONNECT® 8.4A OR 8.4AN NAVIGATION SYSTEM (RA3/RA4) | HERE
But I can't find any reference to new Australian maps. Has anyone seen anything? The release of the NA maps gives me some hope....
Russell

Re: Australian maps?

Hi Russell,

Had my Jeep in last week for some updates and was informed that there are no map updates for Oz in the near future.

Cheers, Craig

Re: Australian maps?

Hmmmm , that's as I thought. Bad news really. Three year old maps are rapidly becoming useless in some areas, and downright misleading.
Thanks,
Russell

Well the NA maps are newer but not sure I would call them new I loaded them yesterday and the map data is 2013Q4 my jeep was built with 2012Q2 so its an improvement but a little older than expected especially for $150.

Anyway many of us here in the US fed-up with the 3 year old maps began sending complaints to Chrysler and HERE(map producer) and from what we gathered Chrysler was the hold up on the release. The complaining through as many ways as we could come up with did seem to be heard as specific near term dates of availability began being posted on the HERE website instead of the nebulous general time frames that had always been posted and missed over the past year. Start an aggressive complaint campaign to Chrysler and rally as many people as you can to participate, it could help. the thread was also elevated to a sticky so that helped it get more attention.

Here is the US map thread
2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Good luck

Re: Australian maps?

Thanks Silvermax. I'll start by calling Chrysler Australia, and post their response here.

Try to use as many different methods as possible phone calls, emails, hard copy letters through snail mail, posting it on the Jeep facebook page the more methods the better. If you scan through the NA map thread above there is also a draft letter that people can copy insert their info and send, saves a little time and may get more people to do it. The more people you can rally to complain the better. a single voice is brushed a side, many different voices through many different methods of communication start to be noticed.

The NA maps sold out in one day when they went up for sale in the US last week, they are supposed to be available again on 26 May so there is a demand for them and people do want them. When the 2012Q2 map data hit 3 years old in 2015Q2 that was when it seemed to cross the line with people and the NA map thread started and went to over 600 posts fairly quick. Take a read on it may give you some ideas to help AUS with the same issue.

Re: Australian maps?

I'm about to purchase a 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited. One thing that I forgot to look at was its sat nav and in particular what map revision it had installed.

How often is Jeep updating the maps? And do you have to pay to get the maps upgraded?

We have a Holden Captiva (Daewoo originated). Its map is dated back to 2011 and it would cost me $380 for its latest map which is dated 2013.

In contrast my TomTom VIA620 cost me $250 2 years ago and has free lifetime map updates.

Its maps are sourced from Sensis data, same as the Captiva's. What about the Jeep? Where does it source the map data from?

An old post of yours, but as a prospective new owner I'm interested to hear how you went.

Thanks.

Re: Australian maps?

No update I'm afraid. I called and was fobd off. No infornmation - the dealer will know when any update is available. The dealer tells me to contact the map supplier, who tells me to contact JA.
As far as I can tell, what we have ( q2 2012 I think) is what we will have forever. I've given up and use my Garmin where the car Nav is outdated.
Still love my Jeep, but support really does suck.
I don't know whether other manufacturers update their maps. Or with what frequency. But it probably wouldn't cause me to switch - which I've no doubt Jeep has figured out!
Thanks,
Russell.

Re: Australian maps?

The map supplier the dealer told me to call is " here.com". Maybe you can try them and let's know if they are more helpful than I found them!

Re: Australian maps?

Here is the largest map provider in the world, it was/is owned by Nokia, but they have sold it to a group of car companies. They release updated maps twice a year, it is up to the car brand to then buy and sell them. Most brands seem to do it once per year from what I have read, and charge prices from expensive to just plain insane.

I think the US one that got released in August cost them USD $125 or $150, if I wasn't so slack I would look in the US thread.
