Unhappy Diesel CDR S- Limited (EU) and Remote Start

Today I receive info from my local dealer, that is not possible install Remote Start (82212137 or 82213673) in my car (S-Limited). I try find some more information about limitation of this feature for some models, but I was unsuccessful. Have you any experience with this, or somebody has this function in your car (same model). THX

Peter it might be a legal thing rather than a physical thing, in Australia some owners have looked into it, we could buy the remote start from the US and install it our selves but NO dealer will do the reflash needed to make the GC recognize the remote start, as it is illegal in every state in Australia

Interesting...why would something like that be illegal?

Technically it is not illegal (EDIT: OP, not sure about the UK though). Australian Road Rules only mention securing a car when you leave it. Nothing about the engine running before you get in...

213 Making a motor vehicle secure

This rule applies to the driver of a motor vehicle who stops and leaves the vehicle on a road, except so far as the driver is exempt from this rule under another law of this jurisdiction.

Note Motor vehicle is defined in the dictionary.

(1) Before leaving the vehicle, the driver must apply the parking brake effectively or, if weather conditions (for example, snow) would prevent the effective operation of the parking brake, effectively restrain the motor vehicle’s movement in another way.

Offence provision.

(2) If the driver will be over 3 metres from the closest part of the vehicle, the driver must switch off the engine before leaving the vehicle.

Offence provision.

(3) If the driver will be over 3 metres from the closest part of the vehicle, and:

(i) there is no-one left in the vehicle; or
(ii) there is only a child or children under 16 years old left in the vehicle;

the driver must remove the ignition key before leaving the vehicle.

Offence provision.

(5) If the driver will be over 3 metres from the closest part of the vehicle and there is no-one left in the vehicle, the driver must:

(a) if the windows of the vehicle can be secured — secure the windows immediately before leaving the vehicle and

(b) if the doors of the vehicle can be locked — lock the doors immediately after leaving the vehicle.

Offence provision.

Note Window is defined in the dictionary.

(6) For the purposes of subrule (5), a window is secure even if it is open by up to 2 centimetres.

Re: Diesel CDR S- Limited (EU) and Remote Start

Guys, the problem is in psychical thing:-) Upon arrival FIAT in to Chrysler, all Fiat dealers have a feeling that they are already Jeep dealers with high level of services. When I tryed ask about it dealer which provide services Jeep on market more as 10 years, the answer was: NO problem! Now I ordered all parts which is needed for remote start, and after 13.3 I will go to Jeep Servis for replacement what necessary. Last thing what I need is PIN code from importer, for exchange Ignition Node.

Re: Diesel CDR S- Limited (EU) and Remote Start

Does anyone have experience with installation after-market kit? Technician said, that in EU version is installed lock of steering. In US version lock of steering absent. It's true? He identify potentially problem with installation remote start in my Jeep, because remote start not working with this lock. Hm...?!

Re: Diesel CDR S- Limited (EU) and Remote Start

Correct. The steering column is different in export models as we require steering locks in our cars. Because of this the factory remote start will not work in export models. If you were to change the steering column to a US non-locking one it might work, but the vehicle would probably no longer comply with the motor vehicle standards.

If you want to go after-market I believe the Viper remote start kits are quite popular

Re: Diesel CDR S- Limited (EU) and Remote Start

Ok, remote control is installed. As said Studgun - EU version has steering lock and this is paired with existing WIN(Wireless Ignition Node) module. Be very carefully! Change new WIN may destroy communication both modules without step back. After installation new WIN module, steering lock must be unplugged. Everything working perfect now. I didn't find info about threshold for heating or ventilation. My experience in 0 Celsius temperature are heated steering wheel, heated driver seats and heated rear mirror turn on. Thanks all for support.

So it's just a matter of unplugging something in the steering column and it works? Does unplugging that affect anything else?

Re: Diesel CDR S- Limited (EU) and Remote Start

Basically yes, it's all:-) Formally you must process all steps from instalation manual (WIN update via wiTECH and provide programming the WIN, programing new two Sentry Key FOBIK).

Hi Peter

Have s couple of questions re unplugging the steering shaft lock module

Have tried to unplug the steering shaft lock module on my vehicle, but can't identify it. Is it located down the bottom of the steering shaft or up near the steering wheel? What does it look like? Do you unplug it with the vehicle running, to ensure that the lock does not stay in a locked position?

Does your vehicle have the drivers knee airbag? It makes access to this area quite difficult.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
