It just sounds (from my mechanic) like they don't have many mechanics that know the diesel at least the one I have. Maybe he is exaggerating being worried about his job?
The new diesel hopefully will find the market the old one never did.

Re: Diesel Grand Cherokee Coming to US!

People will base their purchase off of the cost of diesel and maintenance. Sales wouldn't be so great would they?

Good to know we beat you guys in something! Must be our reliance on coal fired power stations... My CRD ownership goes an extremely minuscule distance towards mitigating our leadership in the pollution stakes and is not why I bought the car. I bought it because it has 550nm of torque (more than the v8) over a larger and lower rev range and in Australia at least marketed to be faster than the V8. EDIT (which I now know not to be true). http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread...761#post544761

To be honest a little part of me still wishes I got the hemi with a nice aftermarket exhaust but total cost of ownership including resale pushed me toward the CRD and you can't get a Laredo with a V8 down under.

The Touareg is nice but if you do any off-roading keep in mind that the spare is a blowup compact tire (if you are off-road how far will you get?). Carriers for full sized tires (fit into tow hitch receiver) do exist but compromise rear visibility and increase rear end collision damage.

Re: Diesel Grand Cherokee Coming to US!

I recently bought a VW Jetta TDI for commuting/carpooling. Was so intrigued by the CRD technology and mpg i would potentially get on my 60% highway driving that i decided to pull the trigger after a few test drives. WOW! I am blown away by Diesels!!!

Love the power/torque, feels faster than it is. Don't miss my sports coupe that i traded for... loving my mixed driving 40mpg average according to Fuelly... on board computer thinks im getting even more. Love getting 500+ miles per tank!!

Would be VERY VERY VERY tempted to at least test drive the CRD Jeep GC, eventhough im still loving my current one with the V6.

Ouch that's telling us!

At the risk of totally detailing this thread, you are talking through your arse. Firstly, you are referring to carbon emissions, which is not pollution. Secondly, America is the second largest emitter in the world behind China. On a per capita basis, you good ole boys still out emit us Aussies - 176 000 metric tones of co2 per person compared to our feeble 160 000 metric tones per person. thirdly, In 2008 the US accounted for 18.11% of world emissions, we emitted a minuscule 1.6%. Fourthly, per capita measures are bull, We are no.11 and the US is no.12 - behind such world powerhouses as Qatar, Trinidad and Tobago, Dutch Antilles, Luxembourg and the Falkland Islands to name a few. Lastly, Australia is a huge continent with a relatively tiny population. Bush fires, cow farts and other natural occurrences contribute to our total emissions. But don't worry, our dysfunctional Labor Govt. (similar to your Democrats) and their Greens Party bedfellows are going to save the world by slapping the world's highest carbon tax - $23 per tonne on our industry starting in July adding about 6-10 cents per litre (24-40 cents per gallon). Apparently, it will be good for business and the rest of the world (read you laggards) will soon realize the error of your ways and follow suit. That's what they tell us anyway.

Yeah, right.

Rant off back on topic.

I am buying a CRD for the torque, economy and towing capacity. I have taken one on an extended test drive and the pickup and handling are awesome. One point which hasn't been made in this thread is the Hemi and the CRD both have the heavier towing capacity - 3500kg whereas the Pentastar is only rated for 2500kg.

Just because i like arguments..

Both of these Aussies are worse per capita than the US, for Greenhouse and CO2 emmisions, which is pollution.

Have a look at the bottom of wikipedia, sources are from UN Statistics Division, and the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC)

So do I

pol·lu·tion/pəˈlo͞oSHən/
Noun:
The presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects.

co2 is a naturally occurring chemical compound which is essential for plant growth etc etc etc

We can argue this one until the cows come home, but the nexus between AGW and CO2 has not been scientifically proven. Oh that's right, let's call it climate change instead of AGW because the real world has not warmed like the models. Prove me wrong. Point me to one skerrick of conclusive evidence showing the correlation between AGW and Co2. Computer models are not proof BTW.

Per capita statistics are drivel for a variety of reasons, some of which I have already stated. Are you seriously trying to compare the no.1 per capita world "polluter" which is Qatar (pop. 1.8m) to the USA (pop. 313m) and claim that the world is going to hell because of the evil Qataris? They are clearly far more badder than us Aussies, Thank God for the Chinese - on a per capita basis they are ranked a lowly 121. They must be clean and green obviously.

If you look at actual emissions, the Chinese and USA are number 1 and two with a bullet - 23.33% and 18.11% respectively. Australia is no. 16 at 1.32% and remember those evil Qataris? They come in at No. 47 with a whopping 0.23% contribution.

Are you still seriously trying to maintain that Australia is no. 1?

ROTFLMAO.

Re: Diesel Grand Cherokee Coming to US!

Hey i never said Aus is #1, i said Aus is worse per Capita than the US
i am just sitting on the sidelines throwing in information for others to argue :P

Computer models not being proof, what proof would you like? Things like that are exteremly hard to prove with not using a computer. It is like saying "My Jeep can withstand a 747 crashing into it, prove me wrong" you cant use a computer simulation, and i can guarentee a 747 hasnt crashed into a 2012 Jeep GC before. Yes silly example, but we all know what the result will be, even with out it having to happen.
