Down here in Oz, guys have taken to supplying their own oil to the dealers. We don't have a lot of options. At the moment, the only oil we are confident of for the VM Motori and that is reasonably available is Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30. Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W-30 also fully complies but we can't get that here.

Re: Diesel People - Enlighten Me? (2014)

I too want the CRD GC. When is it coming to the San Francisco area?

BTW, the other day I test drove the Diesel Porsche Cayenne. A nice car, but nowhere near as off-road capable as the GC. The Diesel Cayenne uses Mobil 1 0W-40 oil, with recommended changes very 10K miles. That's the first I'd heard of 0W oil!

Straight weight oil is very common in the small engine (lawnmower, snowblower) world. Here's a good description of what those numbers mean

One thing going in the favor of the VM Motori diesel is going to be the wide usage. Once this engine comes out in the 2014 Ram 1500's, there will be a lot of them on the road, so the service/training should eventually catch up with it. I am looking forward to it, after having a 7.3 Excursion (good engine) and a 6.4 F250 (good engine, strangled by emissions controls).

30mpg would be nice on hwy, but frankly, I'd need to own one for over 100,000 miles just to make the price difference up with gas. And there's NO WAY the diesel will perform like the hemi. Sorry, it won't.

I would consider the new diesel now if I was in the market.

The only other thing I've heard from people (and this may sound silly...) is that their spouses don't like to pump the fuel because it is a mess. But at 600 miles per tank, when would they have to?
I can't speak to cold starts at -22f, but I can comment on the other things.

If you are paying cash up front for your vehicle, then it will take you a little while to make up the price difference between a diesel and V6 gas engine (still absolutely worth it IMO). If you are financing though, the price savings are instant because you will be saving more in fuel every month than the extra price added into the monthly payment.

Yes, you are right. The diesel will not perform like the Hemi, but you would be surprised how hard you will have to drive the Hemi to make it feel faster and more enjoyable to drive. It makes a lot more horsepower higher in the rpm range, but you will have to stay up high in those rpms and gulp fuel to surpass the fun factor of having massive torque just above idle. I have a 2013 Porsche Cayenne diesel with essentially the same powertrain (3.0l diesel & 8 spd). The engine and transmission are a match made in heaven.

Lastly, pumping the diesel is no more difficult or smelly than pumping gasoline. Like you said though it doesn't matter that much because you don't have to fill up often. With the Porsche (26.4 gal tank) my wife has been getting 650 miles per tank with 50/50 city/highway.

If you had a block heater would that help with the remote start? Small price to pay for a warm vehicle. Just remember to open the garage door

Euro Chevy Cruze - VM Motori 2.0 (1991 cc) diesel built in Korea.
US Chevy Cruze - Fiat 2.0 (1956 cc) diesel MultiJet1 built in Keiserslautern, Germany.

MultiJet
MultiJet - 5 injections per cycle
MultiJet II - 8 injections per cycle
Can you or someone explain this multijetll injections per cycle is it better for fuel pump, I had VW jetta diesel since all the troubles I traded it in Would like to get CRD soon and worried if this would be a problem with the diesel in the US thxs to everyone

Maybe. From what I've heard from diesel owners, the engines don't heat up until you are under load. That being said, if they do have an electric ancillary heater for the cockpit, it could heat up immediately.

My coworker says his dodge truck has snow on the hood all winter - never heats up enough to melt. This just shows you how different they are and more efficient.

But sort of like an electric - looks great on paper, then you buy a Leaf for 100 mpc and get maybe 40 because you live in a cold climate. Yet to see one in these parts at all.

I'm not bashing diesels, I think they work great. But specifically I don't think they heat up at idle as fast as gas engines. That's all.

Why would you not want a cleaner emissions vehicle?
