Difference between 2011 & 2012 + other questions

Hi everyone!

I am thinking of buying a jeep. I love the design and the features. I have been doing my research and looks like the early ones had issues. Are there improvements on the 2012 models?

What are the differences?

Should I buy one? The guy from qld has scared me a bit with his car shutting down for no reason!

Are the 2012 models reliable or are they still having issues?

Is it true they are building the MY13 as of July 2012? My dealer said that was not true.

Thank you!

Re: Difference between 2011 & 2012 + other questions

There is no differences in the motors/drivelines between the 11 and 12 models.
The one reported problem of it stopping is just that, one person. Any mass produced item will have their lemons.
I have had a few problems with mine, but I still think they are the best bang for your buck on the market today.
Dealers know very little in comparison to what is on this site. The have stopped taking orders for the 2012 cars and will be building the 2013's from July onwards. In Jan 2013 they will start the 8sp 2014 models. I would wait, as you would be lucky to get a car this year with the CRD motor, if it is built to order. This is because most people are being quoted November delivery now, and each day it gets longer.

I agree with enforcer. The saying goes for any new model for any manufacturer, steer clear of the first year. The yanks are now into their third year of production most manufacturing or build issues should have been sorted. I have an october 11 build and have nearly 10,000 ks and no problems.

The best thing about forums like this is it gives people who have problems to get information and support in the event of an issue arising. Most people on this forum know more than any dealer in Aust. The problem with this forum is for people like you where it seems there is a high rate of failures because this is where those people are drawn for help. Have a look on a land rover or land cruiser site and you will see the same.

Yes I know what you mean, it's normally the people with issues on the forum. Mind you when I go to the Mitsubishi ones, i don't see any problems!

The 12's seem to be pretty solid from what I can tell. There are obviously people with issues, but thats what your gonna see on any car forum. I have a 12 Overland V6 no issues in 4,000 miles and I love it.Well I take that back one minor thing is the 730N nav radio will lose my home address every now and then. I think the presets have erased once as well. No clue why, and dealership does not have a software update yet.
If I were in your shoes I would wait for a 2014 those are gonna be sweet!! I already want a 2014 and I already have a almost new Overland :-)

I have a 2012 Overland CRD on order - delivery August 2012 in South Africa.
Should I cancel and rather wait for the 2013 batch with ZF gearbox , or is the existing 5 speed adequate?
What do you guys think?

An additional gear or two would be useful. RPM's are well over 2000 at 100km/h (that is max allowable speed here on the east coast). An additional cog would give better economy. Due to the superb torque of the engine, low down grunt is excellent. My only gripe is the manual overide logic. If you nudge the shifter into 2nd, the car will drive between 1st and second, shift to the 3rd, the computer will pick best gear between the 3. I would love the ability over-ride the system to start off in 2nd, especially in the wet. The CRD however is excellent and you're gonna love driving it.
