Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

They cannot void your warranty for going to a non dealer for service.
If they use approved parts and oil, they cannot make that claim or they will be in deep shit.

Thanks for the info, I wonder though how the local dealer would feel if I just turned up for warranty work & Software Updates lol

I may just do just that though as I am not sure how much faith I have in the Dealers service dept & of course there is the price

Thats exactly what I do and have no troubles.

The only servicing that I will ever get them to do is that Auto Tranny which is due very soon.

Sounds like it is the way to go now to locate a good mechanic & get an Oil change done or do you get your mechanic to do a full service as per the book?

I can just see what it will be like when I take my vehicle to my local dealer for the warranty work only = lol

It's not approved parts!, it's equivalent quality parts !, so you can use aftermarket filters and parts, as long as they are equivalent quality, if you get your vehicle serviced/repaired by a qualified mechanic at a registered business they can not legally deny warranty

I self perform all my own vehicle servicing and use OEM parts and fluids other than the diff oils for which I use Redline. For engine oil in the CRD I'm currently using Mobil 1 5w30 ESP. I also keep a detailed service history and receipts.

I also follow all the requirements of the generic service/ warranty book although it is over servicing in my opinion and also when compared to the service requirements of the USA and UK.

The phrase "equivalent quality parts" recalls my many stoushes with construction contractors on this issue. On the face of it, it seems a reasonable requirement. However, it means little if one doesn't establish the criteria by which the equivalence of quality is determined. Having done that, one then has to carry out independent lad tests to prove it. Nobody is going to do that so you are still left with a shouting match. I've had contractors tell me that nothing is equivalent to their Brand X but Brand X. They had a point. Neither of us were prepared to do the testing so I had to bluff my way out of it. Those were the days. That is why I'm now retired and on anti-depressants now

Thanks Swampy I have ordered the same Oil as you are using as it meets the requirements for the 2011/2012 handbook & while mine is a 2013 model with a build date of 12/12 & does have the Fiat Oil specs listed in the handbook I very much doubt the engine is any different & I cannot find any Oil that meets these specs in any case, who knows what my Dealer uses as he simply tells me they use Euro spec.
I have made a few enquiry's for servicing with other workshops & am waiting for them to get back to me however the local Repco service centre may be the go.
Thanks guys for all the help & info

Could you tell me what type of filter do you use & how much does it cost?

Hi Aussie

While the vehicle is under warranty I always use OEM parts.

Oil filter and Air Filter about $52ea from the dealer.

OEM Diesel fuel filters are a killer. About $125 ea and you need two of them.

The 40k service cost me about $500 in parts and fluids, compared to $850 - $1,000 that others are paying at the dealers.

At the next 50,000 km service the Auto tranny will need servicing of which I'll get the dealer to do and I'll again do the rest of the service.
