Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

Sorry Ally, I will get onto it this weekend. Under the pump at work and no time for any fun.
P.S I will be doing another change this weekend as the car is near 20k km.

Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

I was in Auto One yesterday and saw an el cheapo sump plug wrench. The description was written in English and French and that's when I learnt that the French word for plug is tampon. The tool was for female plugs only but that stands to reason. Judging by the difficulty you guys are having, I might have to get a good tampon remover myself.

Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

New to the site. Mainly joined up so i could view enforcers oil change guide. But looks like a good site. Good to see a few aussies around.

Just did the 10000 km oil change on my 2012 cherrybomb. No mayor dramas. i did how ever go and buy a 27mm socket, very good investment. And had a last minute change in mind about the oil i was using, went with castrol magnatec 5w-40 diesel in the end.

Will probably replace the sump plug, just to avoid any future dramas, next service. It was very tight and can see how it could easily become a big problem.

any way... thats my 2 bobs worth.

Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

Just spoke to the jeep dealer about the rear window dust seal and mentioned that i changed the oil in it, and he's told me that it will void the warrantee if i do it myself.

The last 2 guys i spoke to said its not an issue as long as i use recommended parts/oil.

How can they justify $480 for a filter and oil?

Smiley they have to prove that what you've done has caused the problem, other wise they HAVE to honor the warranty

Ask him to put that statement in writing. This is total BS and I would be contacting the dealer principal as it is both illegal and unethical.
There is NO requirement to bend over and pay the rip off prices that the stealers are charging.
Read your service manual and you will find they do **** all work for their money.

Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

Thanks for a great post. One very minor improvement is to slightly loosen the oil filter BEFORE draining the oil - this allows the oil inside the filter housing to drain easily out through the sump drain hole because air can get in to replace it. If you don't do this there is a fair amoount of oil that tends to run out when you take the fliter housing off.

Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

Where is the oil filter located on the engine? Is it easy to reach?

I'm most likely getting a '14' & I plan on doing most of my oil changes so I'm just curious.
thank you.

Edit....I checked out the pdf & there was a nice picture of the location of the filter.

Great oil change guide and great advice about the drain plug issue.

Does anyone know if there is a specific tourque that should be put on the plug or is it the general rule of hand tight then an extra bump or two to snug things up?

Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

Hi Mal, welcome to the forum.
I would not suggest your advice as the filter is a cartridge and the thread is at the bottom. If you loosen up the housing, it will leak. I had no issue with residue oil in the housing after the draining without the loosen.
The trick to get a good drain is to remove the oil cap and also do it when the motor is warmed up a bit.

As for 4JD's question, I do not know if there is any torque recommendations (i bet there is) but a tighten then a nip is all I did and there have been no leaks.

Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

Hi Enforcer

Let me add my congrats for a very concise howto.

I noticed that you mentioned the made in China filter. Did it come in a MOPAR box. Just we have a filter supplier locally who sells all sorts of aftermarket filters and would probably be a much cheaper option than the tuppney paper job from China.

Something to fill the days waiting for the new van with.
