I have a question for John47, i use Shell Ultra Extra, in our workshop for most stuff that require C3 spec oil for DPF,do you know what shell have changed with that oil, i will be ringing them to see what has changed. THANKS
No I don't know what changed in the formulation, check out this thread and post #11 on the first page....CRD oil on special
The first that was noticed (by an observant forum member) is that on new stock containers of the product the Chrysler approval just disappeared and that raised alarm bells to check. I was one of the lucky people who had purchased "old" stock.
I made a number of phone calls to Shell customer service and got moved to tech services, got lots of different stories from different people - the Shell people I spoke to were very reluctant to put anything in writing but eventually I had email confirmation the the formulation had changed - but no reason given.

Extract from the email - and note the "new" formulation doesn't claim C2 or C3!!
"It appears you bought old and new product formulations off the same shelf. The current (since Feb 2012) formulation for Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30 does not claim any formal ACEA specifications (including C2 & C3) or Chrysler MS-11106 specification (including some other OEM’s)."

The thing that is wrong is that if you google the Helix Ultra Extra product you will get the old spec - not the new spec so I guess it is buyer beware - but potentially an issue.
Based on my conversations with Shell customer service and their attitude I won't go back to their products as I won't trust them in future.
Mobil oil will go in the CRD in the future.
Good luck getting a straight answer from Shell
John

Macarthur Jeep use Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30. Other Jeep dealers’ I seen in Sydney use Havoline Fully Synthetic C3 5W-30.

Cool Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

Hi,
A useful post, great info. You may have not noticed as the writing is not very pronounced but "25Nm" is stamped on the oil filter plastic housing. This is the recommended torque and should be used when tightening for peace of mind.....

Same here, at least until something better comes along.

We know that Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W-30 complies. Mopar markets Pennzoil Ultra L 5w-30 as part # 68001334PB. The Pennzoil site does not list and "Ultra L" only an "Ultra Euro L" 5W-30. I asked both Pennzoil and Mopar if there was a difference. Mopar didn't reply. However, Mopar lists it as approved for the 3L CRD but I think they mean the Merc CRD. It may well be OK for the VM Motori but who knows? Pennzoil's only comment was that Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W-30 is the right oil. Not what I asked!

Another oil that complies is Selenia Multipower C3. Selenia seems to be a favourite of Italian sports car enthusiasts. There is an Australian importer but he hasn't replied to my email.

Spoke to a couple of dealers in brisbane the other day
After a bit of pushing they both stated that they use Castrol syn oil in the diesels
They would not go any further with type etc except to say its a Dealer only oil
I don't beleive them
More likely its the cheapest they can get
Not keen on Castrol oil previous exp was it gummed up a lot

Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

Thanks Enforcer for this guide,it's one of the main reasons I joined up to this great site. I may be too much of a nit picker for bringing this up (and don't want to upset someone who is 6'5") but I believe in step 1 it should state that bringing the oil up to operating temp.will make the oil LESS viscous not more viscous. Thanks again...wapshuffle.

Just bought 20L (20L drum) Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30, for $227 that works out to $11.35 per liter, that's cheaper than I can get the nulon oil at my local super cheap
Bought the Mobil 1 ESP from East Coast Lubes (their Darwin branch), they have several outlets around Aus
Now I just have to see how much my local jeep dealer wants to rip me off for filters

Speaking of filters and dealer ripoffs, has anyone tried the Wesfil oil filters yet?

Re: ENFORCER'S Oil Change Guide for a 2011 VM Motori CRD

Yes, they have, will just need to search.

Helloflot cheaper, that's for sure, just not sure if I am game.

Just got two x Diesel Fuel filters last week from Jeep. $125......EACH!

No wonder the 40 thou service is so expensive.
