new overland first big trip:
did adel to melb 2 days ago and got 8.9 litres/100km
did melb to adel yesterday via halls gap (great place to visit) and got 9.2 litres/100km

Re: Fuel consumption on my new 3.0 CRD limited -

Happy to report with 8,500kms on the clock consumption has been around 12l/100kms since new... Mostly around town. I reset EVIC and did 250kms (30 through Brisbane) and got 7.4l/100kms. Max ave speed would have been 105kms except Vegas of course!

Re: Fuel consumption on my new 3.0 CRD limited -

We did a spur of the moment day trip to the Hunter Valley today. 430km round trip with an average consumption of 9.0L/100kms. This average also includes the procession of red traffic lights between Turramurra and the Gore Hill Freeway in Sydney in both directions.

In fact after 1 hour of travelling from the southern side of Sydney this morning, we still hadn't reached the F3.

So fuel economy would have been somewhat better if the traffic was flowing better in the morning and evening.

The GC now has 1919kms on it.

I have found better fuel economy in Sport mode and I would agree with Mendo's logic on this.

As for fuel, my lease allows me to use either BP or Caltex. So far I've had a tank of BP Ultimate and a tank of Caltex Vortex and my economy has dropped on the Vortex.

I don't think I've been driving any differently so maybe it's all in my imagination.

I'll drive it to the Gold Coast tomorrow and see what I get.

Cheers,

Clarkey.

I Use caltex vortex. There is 9,500 on the clock. Had a day trip a couple of weeks ago from Brisbane to Tewantan than to Noosa for morning tea then back to Tewantan accross the ferry to Noosa North Shore and up the beach to Double Island Point played in the sand and then down the beach to Freshwater and through the Freshwater track to the majn road and into Rainbow Beach for lunch and back down the main highway through Gympie back to Brisbane 537 kl round trip for 45.4 liters thats 8.45 l/100 Thats includes highway, urban and sand

Sounds great jeepthingy. I might give that one a go before I head up to Fraser in November.

As for my fuel consumption, I think I had a moment of insanity when I typed that. I think I had gone off the numbers just after I'd filled my tank and my trip down the Coast saw me get down to about 8.9L/100km.

Re: Fuel consumption on my new 3.0 CRD limited -

After 7799km of mainly city driving in peak hour I am averaging 11.21km overall. I use Roadtrip HD on my ipad to monitor vehicle costs. In the latest version, you can also record the trip computer reading which varies from the Roadtrip calculation. I am guessing Roadtrip would be more accurate. I fill up with Caltex Vortex Premium Diesel 99% of the time. Anyway this is what my fuel history looks like

Date odo Distance Range Lt/100km Trip Location Lts

31/03/12 387 342km 676km 13.75 Caltex Kellyville 47.04
10/04/12 1119 732km 732km 11.13 Caltex Nth Parra 81.45
24/04/12 1895 776km 849km 10.96 Caltex Nth Parra 85.05
04/05/12 2578 683km 765km 12.15 Caltex Kellyville 83.01
17/05/12 3371 793km 828km 11.24 Caltex Nth Parra 89.10
31/05/12 4046 675km 747km 12.45 Shell Northmead 84.01
09/06/12 4676 630km 881km 10.56 Caltex Parklea 66.53
26/06/12 5483 807km 816km 11.40 Caltex Parklea 92.01
08/07/12 6186 703km 870km 10.69 Caltex Parklea 75.14
22/07/12 6987 801km 885km 10.50 10.9 Caltex Parklea 84.14
01/08/12 7799 812km 830km 11.21 10.9 Caltex Parklea 91.00

So there's up to a couple of litres/100km difference per tank, even though I am pretty well driving to the same places in the same traffic conditions and filling up at the same places. Interesting that the Jeeps trip computer calculated the fuel consumption at 10.9 lt/100km for the last two fills, even though the actual consumption varies by 0.70 lt. I suppose to be entirely accurate, you would have to stop filling at the first click or when it overflowed to minimise variance. Anyway it is still pretty frugal on fuel considering the size of vehicle.

Re: Fuel consumption on my new 3.0 CRD limited -

Wow you guys are getting much higher, mine sits around the 8.8-9L mark.. goes up to 11-12L when im towing my race car, but then back down.

Although i dont spend a lot of time driving in the city or bumper to bumper traffic. Only really use BP Diesel.

Re: Fuel consumption on my new 3.0 CRD limited -

Ok, so it's official: fuel in Poland sucks!
We have just made a trip through Europe.
Polish fuel - 140-160 km/h - 14.5l/100km !!!!!!!
German - 160-180 km/h - 11l/100km
Swiss - 120-130 km/h - 9.5l/100km
Italian - mix city/highways - 10.5l/100km
Austrian - 130-140 km/h - 10.5l/100km

The car has now 8000km.
Maybe it's improving by itself? But more likely it is the fuel.

Re: Fuel consumption on my new 3.0 CRD limited -

Just had mine for 2 weeks, and i'm getting about 10.5 litres per 100kms.

Mainly city driving and also pedal to the floor now and then. Clock is currently 1,400kms.

I heard once you head in for your first inspection, they reset your ECU for engine run-in and fuel economy improves drastically....will find out in about a week.

Hi Guys
Just clicked over 10k while on the trip from South of Brisbane to 1770 via Childers and Bundaberg and back to Brisbane towing 3.3 t boat round trip 1048.8km (up on one tank) with 16.6l/100 I am rapped. Towed like a charm sticking to the speed limits and passing others in the overtaking lanes.

Towing with a WDH

Iam picking up a new GC diesel with Quadra-lift, I currently have a 06 GC with a 2' lift kit fitted. My main Q is do I still need to use my Weight Distribution Hitch when I hook up my 2.5t van and if I do what procedure do I need to follow
