I don't know what is added to stop the waxing, but I can say from experience that a low temperature morning start resulting in a wax clogged fuel filter means very cold fingers when replacing the filter element......the thing just won't start otherwise - and crawling under a JGC in frost or snow to get at them would only enhance the experience.

I rest the high flow nozzles on the lip of the filler hole and gently squeeze to the point of blow-back. It doesn't take as long as one might think.

I didn't know we get Alpine diesel in Oz. It makes sense. Some decades ago before the popularity of diesels, I remember X-countrying back into Perisher on dusk after a cold front had passed through. The car park was empty except for my forlorn icicled petrol vee-dub and about a dozen abandoned diesel 4x4's. The vee-dub cranked a bit hard against the cold oil but started and off I went. Yep, there are a few things worse than being under a car with frozen figures.

A lot of the servos in and around the high country here in Vic carry the alpine diesel over winter. Not sure what date they start carrying it. I also add a winter additive when heading up into the snow.

Pretty cool! Probably essential in cold countries. I don't think my MY12 hast it. There is no mention of it in the fuse box and I didn't notice anything when changing the filters, wasn't looking though.

Re: GC Diesel & fuel filler nozzle (Australia)

Well my dementia has set in after a long day driving towing our van pulled into a Caltex and picked up the wrong "Vortex" pump to fill my diesel GC. After about 40 lts I realised what I had done and got the car recovered to a repair centre to drain the tank and replace the filters. To get the vehicle onto the tilt bed I had to turn on the ignition to unlock the steering and when I got to the repairer I asked if this would be a problem and he told me as long as I didn't start the motor I should be ok. After years of owning diesels this is the first time I have ever done this and according to the repairer I am not the only one to be caught out by the way Woolworths Caltex brand all their fuels "Vortex". My other issue is with the cap less system on my previous GC's their was a pause to remove the cap and take stock before picking up the bowser now that has been removed and that break in concentration to pick up the wrong Vortex pump and start pumping is all it takes even though that big yellow "Diesel Only" is screaming at you. So lesson learnt a expensive one, now I am not so quick at the pump👌

Re: GC Diesel & fuel filler nozzle (Australia)

It's just a matter of time for all of us. I use only BP when I can. BP also labels all their fuels "Ultimate" including diesel. However the nozzle is quite different with a raised yellow warning plaque and of course it's the grubby one but I expect Caltex is much the same. LandCruisers etc don't have this problem. The just head for the high-flow pump.

Sorry to hear that mate, probably set you back a grand. I use Caltex (petrol card) and its pretty poor the way Diesel is labelled as Vortex and have a dark colour nozzle like Vortex 95 on some pumps.

I searched high and low for one of these in WA but never found one (SD5 for WK2 GC's) -

https://www.raa.com.au/shop/caravan-...cap-sd2-thread

Bursons in Osborne Park have a different brand which they put on all their diesel work vehicles due to miss-fuelling by staff but they didn't have one to suit the capless GC's about 1.5 years ago.

Re: GC Diesel & fuel filler nozzle (Australia)

I did this the other day at the local BP. Diesel and ULP are on the same bowser. I picked up the petrol one then realised what I did and put it back.

Yep, you gotta be on the ball, alright.

Re: GC Diesel & fuel filler nozzle (Australia)

The Vortex Diesel ones have a Press to Release catch on the pump (at least at every outlet I have used) so petrol users don’t accidentally fill with Diesel. Also the Diesels are coloured Black instead of Grey or Blue for the Petrol variants, so pretty clear in my mind. We all process information differently however; case in point, having a Yellow or whatever coloured cap would not help me, as I would just tune it out, as the decision process is made at the time of selecting the pump, not inserting it.

Re: GC Diesel & fuel filler nozzle (Australia)

Yes, the Diesels have a push to release which protects petrol users filling with diesel but not the other way around and not always -

In my view, the diesel sticker should be orange with grey writing rather than the other way around as above. Even so, its visual and people aren't perfect so misfuelling goes on every day with diesels, the various roadside services or towies will tell you.

Stations have smaller nozzles and releases catches to protect users from filling with diesel but with diesel cars infiltrating the averages motorists driveway nowadays, there's nothing done to protect petrol going into these vehicles, quite expensive if petrol reaches the HP fuel pumps.

Best way I guess is to grab one of those caps I mentioned in an earlier post or it would be nice of manufacturers have them as standard although the cynic in me says the manufacturers don't do it on purpose as they will make a nice earner on replacing HP fuel pumps etc
