Here in the UK, Petrol(gas) is £1.37/Gallon ($2.12) and Diesel is £1.40 ($2.17). HOwever ,we also pay an annual road tax on our cars which is based on CO2 emissions - this is one big reason why US cars don't sell over here. Currently my Mini costs me $150 per year for Annual road Tax, the WK2 CRD will cost me $418 per year and the Hemi would cost $737 per year. This, combined with the Gas mileage on the vehicles and the massive difference in price over the CRD to the Hemi, means that for the first time I have to now consider a vehicle powered by the "fuel of the devil". Coupled with this, the Hemi depreciates like a rock falling off a cliff over here (after 1 year & 7500 miles, it loses $37000 in value in the first year - 40% of its value) so nobody, including the dealers, will touch them and reselling is nearly impossible.

A quick question to those running the 3.0CRD - what are you obtaining as MPG for the 3.0CRD on average? The figures quoted in the UK spec is 34mpg "combined" (imperial mpg) but I think these are overstated. I'm seeing reports of average mpg around 26.0, is this about right? What is the MPG around town & cruising (75mph/120kmh) ?

thanks all

Dave
Also remember US gallon is 20% smaller than UK gallon so you need to adjust US mpg figures accordingly b

Hi,

i have the Overland 3.0CRD now for about 9 months running.
now, after about 12000km it takes about 9L Diesel per 100km
(this is approx 26mpg US/ 31mpg GB). only cruising you can reach easily 30mpg US/ 36mpg GB.
normal driving, sometimes in the city, sometimes on the highway.

i guess i am normal driver, not pushing all time and not to slow

had to make same decision here and in the end it is completely senseless
to get the v8 here in europe. it is nearly impossible to resell it one time.

i am often in the uk with my car too. even with diesel pricing a little
higher then petrol ... go and get it and have a lot of fun.

til now, i would buy the car again !

Thanks, that is really helpful. On the two test drives I have taken, I have not measured the MPG above 25 on the short runs via the onboard computer, so I was worried that it may be down as low as the teens for MPG around town ! Which also begs another question - I wonder if the GC computer in Europe still measures MPG in US and not Imperial or whether they have actually changed it to show imperial MPG ? Only reason I wonder is that all the temperatures are still in Fahrenheit.....)

Re: Is the diesel really worth it????

hi,

normally you can switch the computer .... either you see km and celsius or
us-miles and fahrenheit. even you can choose if mph or km/h are displayed.
nice feature for me .... when i arrive UK i just switch from km/h to mph.

and dont worry, even my GC consumed in the beginning a little more then now,
about 9,5 to 10L per 100km.
i guess, the engines needs the first approx 5000km to get in shape

Re: Is the diesel really worth it????

While the USA is now self sufficient in oil and diesel costs less to make than gasoline, the price of diesel in the US is still higher than gasoline. According to Bloomberg, the reason is the high demand for diesel in Europe and Latin America, see Diesel Exports From U.S. Rising as Plant Maintenance Winds Down - Businessweek . So USA producers prefer to chase higher prices overseas than sell domestic.
