Re: Is the diesel really worth it????

With diesel being over .$50 the price of 87 I see no benefit. Plus I only drive 6k to 8k miles a year.

Not to mention the sound of the Hemi with my Gibson exhaust is worth the couple extra bucks I pay to fill up more frequently.

Re: Is the diesel really worth it????

Everyones needs are different, but.....

Arithmetic ...is...Arithmetic. Do some legit math, consider how long you'll own the car, ETC.

Similar to religion, politics, and college football national championships -- folks would rather believe than do the math. Guess I'll add diesel vs. gas to the list.

Peace. Enjoy whatever vehicle you choose to buy. I respect your right to choose.

I have the '12 v6 and it realistically gets between 15-22 mpg. On the highway if you have in in cruise at 65 you can get 25.

Re: Is the diesel really worth it????

Does anyone have info on whether or not they will allow the lifetime warranty on the CRD. They currently exclude diesels, but the only diesels available are the work trucks.

Re: Is the diesel really worth it????

Last time I looked the 4x4 and CRD were both $150 extra over the normal warrenty price.

That said I suspect making the Doesel only available on upper lines is a mistake because the diesel will be most attractive in a work truck bought by companies that do not care about chrome.

OTOH a Laredo may not support a $5k option.

Re: Is the diesel really worth it????

V6 vs Diesel ... here is what I think. Fuel savings are a wash. Higher diesel prices, higher initial cost, slighty higher maintenance cancels out any MPG gains.

People say that diesels are underrated when it comes to MPG but I think this depends on a car a well. Touareg is 28MPG HWY and looks like this is what people are getting, maybe 30MPG but no more. Take a look at fuelly.com

To me it is all about performance. For the same fuel cost you get a lot more VROOM than V6.

What worries me is reliability. All the people are saying hey, diesel is great. Remember this is US Spec diesel. This is NOT the same diesel that is being sold in Australia or Europe. All the emissions control crap that they put in scares me.

Would love to test drive or at least see a review of V6. If that's going to be enough for me will probably go with V6. Waiting for some reviews of 2014 or 0-60 numbers.

You are quite right but you forget is that this diesel has more torque than and will out drag the 5.7L Hemi. Test drive one. You'll be sold. You know you want one. As for reliability, diesels last forever. Ask any mechanic. OK the older Merc diesels in Jeeps had some issues mainly due to lack of knowledge on the part of maintainers but this is a new generation VM Motori diesel. A new kid on the block... Hardly, VM Motori have been making diesels since 1947.

Reply to that same question in the ordering thread indicated that at this time, the answer is "no". Diesel not included in lifetime warranty program.

Re: Is the diesel really worth it????

I've been wanting a clean diesel for some time and Jeep finally offers one but now look at what VW might make. This is more attractive for me.

Not questioning reliability of the engine itself. I know diesels are bulletproof.

What scares me is this whole US emission control stuff for US spec models: EGR, urea and all the other crap. Remember there is US diesel and export diesel.

Why be scared? It's all for cleaner emissions.

That's also scary ... if Jeep/Chrysler has no confidence to offer extended warranty and stand behind its own product than ...

On the other hand, I hope this is just the case of ordering early. For crying out loud pricing is not yet even known. Wouldn't be surprised if warranty will be offered by the time you pickup your car in May/June.
