just spitballin'..

what are the odds the MDS technology could/would be added to the diesel at some point in the future?

If the numbers of 215hp/425ft/lbs torque are accurate for the 6 cylinder, operating on 4 would give roughly 145/285. That seems like more than enough power for cruising at 65.

I haven't seen any comparisons of MDS vs non-MDS gas mileage with the hemi so I don't know how much difference it would really make. Not sure if that technology would even work with diesel, just thinking out loud..

Re: just spitballin'..

I get better gas mileage without MDS when I have my InTune installed.

MDS would not be easy to apply to a diesel as it does not use any spark plugs.
To deactivate a cylinder you would need to cut the fuel. While this would be possible, the diesel fuel also lubricates the bores. The CRD's fuel economy is also exceptional and really does not need any further MDS type system.

Re: just spitballin'..

I think the combination of the high diesel compression ration of 16.5:1 vs the Hemi 10.5:1 would also be a factor, and in addition to the V6 configuration that inherantly create more vibration than an inline 6 or V8, I would think that they would have no chance of getting the engine to run smoothly with the MDS activated.

Re: just spitballin'..

I don't know about MDS but while ever the cost of oil remains high, engine efficiency will improve. The most efficient diesels are the low speed marine diesels. They have a thermal efficiency of about 50%. The high speed turbo diesels we have, have a thermal efficiency of only about 40%. So there is a long way to go before diminishing returns start to kick in. How they we get the efficiencies is unlikely to be obvious at this point.
