What a riot! Maybe I can record a Harley and play it on my stereo with the windows open while I drive around in my V6! And BTW that vehicle gets uglier with every new drawing of it I see.
It is certainly gratifying. However, it is not unusual for high end manufacturers to get a lot more out of mass market engines. It's not that Maserati are engine tuning magicians, it's just that they are aiming at a different market. Chrysler aim at the consumer market where even a hint of unreliability relegates manufactures to decades in the automotive doldrums. So they play safe and deliberately detune their engines as much they can get away with. Then, as confidence builds, the manufacture has plenty of scope for annual hp tweaks to keep the image and price alive. On the other hand, in the Maserati's market, no one gives a fig about reliability. It is all about prestige and performance. If in one year the engine is clapped out, throw it away and buy the latest shiny model. Let's hope that the Maserati tweaks are transferable.
About the engine noise through the speakers thing, that is ridiculous! That would be a turn-off for me even if I had the money for a Maserati.
diesel purists will be insulted, since they love the rattle of the diesel. I wish a bolt on muffler would give the 3.0L CRD the sound of a v8, but in all the reading I've done to date, it cannot be done.
